That is my gardening at a hopefully temporary stop.

Was it a carrion crow, or a jackdaw?

On climate change — we're talking, we're beginning to act, but we're still not doing enough...

As far as I am aware they like moist humid conditions. As far as I am aware it is a local problem because of the numbers of adders.

(I am always careful with rubbish heaps as I don't want to harm any slow worms which keep garden pests down.)

Thanks Pappy

A python escaped from the West towards Kent

On mischief it was certainly Hell-bent

But corvid caused trouble

It made him see double

So instead of coming he went...

Hope it hasn't got to Kent yet.

Apparently it got lost, ended up in Essex and was eaten by the locals.

I take it that is just dry rubbish and not ordinary, moist compost heaps Pappy?

It is bad enough we have to put up with Adders in the area, (protected specie,) in the kind of weather we have been having recently they can end up anywhere. You have to be very careful moving heaps of rubbish in the garden. Adder bites kill dogs on a fairly regular basis in the Summer because owners don't get them to the vets quick enough.

I take it that is just dry rubbish and not ordinary, moist compost heaps Pappy? I have spent the last couple of weeks clearing up the allotments and every time I disturb a pile of weeds rats rush out. I assume that they live there because it is dry. I would like to leave them alone. They don't cause me any trouble and apparently you can only catch Weil's disease from their urine. And to my way of thinking anyone who drinks rats' piddle deserves whatever they get.

But I am a bit torn. I don't want to make the wildlife homeless but all those weed piles represent  some useful savings in cash and time when they are composted.

Even so, adders biting dogs is such a rare occurrence in the UK that there's no local manufacture of anti-venom. It's imported in small amounts...

It isn't a rare occurrence where I live and the anti-venom is kept by local vets, due to the need for quick action.
