Feckin unbelievable.
Yes, "Trick and Treat" is a joke, both in its concept and its delivery.

Feckin unbelievable.

It is not unbelievable to me, when  the contract was given to a Tory government friend.

What is bloody annoying is the tried and tested multilingual Japanese track and trace system could have been used months ago.

The Tory government is effing useless.

......

In this case you'll be no doubt astonished that I think the Guardian has got this one partially wrong - if there are only about 100 positive tests per day, of which only a certain percent require contact tracing, it doesn't need 18,000 people yet to do that.

Therefore it's not surprising that a lot of the contact tracers don't have anything to do until/unless there is a second spike.

However where I would partially agree is yet again on effective communication - this fact should have been communicated to them during the training.

It's also partly a symptom of not doing enough testing, but some of that is per expectation.

If the government were effective and honest communicators, it would be a lot better.

Edit:  I have the funny image of every person who tested positive for Covid being called by 100 contact tracers asking them the same question - that will probably come next!

Yet another Tory government cock-up.

That's a polite way of putting it. This is a monumental joke, where we need a seriously dependable, & robust system in place to stop this viral thing, even if it is laborious and complex, there is no real alternative; unless we just want to let the 70s (and over) die in their bed..

...Not my favoured approach, but rapture-lovin' Texans gawn sacrifice themselves fer the youngin's.

On my chat there was a message from a supervisor asking the more experienced members of our chat to help those who needed help. The blind leading the blind! How were people who started the same day as me, and who had the same short and basic training as I had, supposed to help me do my job?

Probably because the other girls and boys were paying attention during their training and you were busying grassing the company up to the Guardian.

I have never been overly fond of hard work myself, but policy has always been that when I have a soft billet I lie back in my bed of ease, I don't piss in the soup. Still, what can you expect from a Guardian reader?

That night I saw someone from the track-and-trace programme had spoken to the BBC, and noted that their group had spent the day watching Netflix or playing games online. Having spent days feeling frustrated, I started to feel dejected too.

Two days later I logged in for my weekend shift and discovered nothing had changed – and that I had clocked up 40 hours of key worker pay for doing absolutely nothing.

After the Dominic Cummings story broke I started hearing more media stories about the track-and-trace programme. Health secretary Matt Hancock claimed that "highly trained track-and-trace staff" were in place. I still had not seen the government system we were supposed to use.

Over the next few days I learned more about my job from watching the news than I did from those who were supposed to supervise me. I still did not feel qualified to do it. Then it was announced by Hancock that we were going live the next day. On my chat there was a message from a supervisor asking the more experienced members of our chat to help those who needed help. The blind leading the blind! How were people who started the same day as me, and who had the same short and basic training as I had, supposed to help me do my job?
