This is also a little bit misleading in the sense that most older people have at least one preexisting condition of some kind.  For example, an average 80 year old would have several pre existing medical conditions.  The average 80 years old would also have a further life expectancy of around 10 years according to the data I heard 2 weeks ago.   Even an 80 year old who is obese with several respiratory conditions would still have an average life expectancy of 2 more years.

Therefore the implication that just because people have medical conditions it's no big deal if Covid-19 finishes them off is deeply misleading.

That would go some way to explain why my hackles go up ,whenever I come across the attitude you describe . I have come across it , on line and in print quiet a bit, not directly face to face ,but the implication has been there on occasion .
The implication being that as you are getting on a bit , you have  nothing else to offer ,and  your life expectations  can be written off , so maybe you should lay back and think of England.  A big NO is the answer . That attitude is as offensive to me. now as it would have been thirty years ago. One can accept when ones time comes. One can not accept being made to feel  that any future you had was pointless anyway, because you as an entity have become pointless because you have reached a certain age. This is not to say I can not take what fate decides. It is to say , don't dare write me off because I'm getting on a bit.

OK. Now here's the real point. In a triage situation where you have to decide who lives and who dies because there isn't enough equipment to go round, who does live, and who does die ?

In such a situation . The person with the best chance of survival is the obvious answer . But day to day attitudes  to the value of an older life should be  something much closer to par. And it's a real disappointment  when that is demonstrated to not be the case.

The simple answer would be to prioritise people based on their % chance of survival. But that's just the simple answer.
I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you.

The BBC just reported that the number of people who have died today after testing positive for CV19 is 148.

This is a non-fact and is the same as ducks float, wood floats, ducks are made of wood.

Absolutely pathetic.

If that post is  supposed to be funny, it isn't.

Clearly you don't understand the English language then.

It doesn't say they have died from the virus, just that they were positive when they died. They could have been hit by a bus, usual BBC reporting.

You clearly don't understand it just isn't funny. If only because 148 recently deceased people do not deserve to be the butt of  any childish play on words. It's not even that good as a play on words, because , what you said was," after testing positive  for CV19." Any other meaning conveyed in that sentence is in your dreams.

Who is joking? I am not and don't see where anyone can think it was a joke.

Fair enough ! Why wait so long to make that clear .? I'm not surprised you disown the notion it was an intended joke.
As you didn't refute the idea it was meant to be taken as humorous , things moved on . I doubted you, but it seems from the above statement we are , and have been on the same page regarding what was actually ever  funny in regard to the op.

From the BBC statement in the OP can anyone tell me how many of the 148 died from CV-19? NO

About 1800 people die every day in the UK. It's not a tragedy, it's the circle of life.

Every death is it's own tragedy. Whether or not you happen to care about it (and it seems to care little indeed).

I don't understand what the joke was meant to be in the OP, and several posts talking about it have made it no clearer to me. Regardless of that I think it's in poor taste to joke about, but each to their own.
Well I didn't write the op but I don't think it was meant to be funny but was just a crack at the Beeb and Barry (also IMO not jokingly) then replied followed by Borchester in his usual irreverent way.....I came along saw the three replies and especially Borchesters and the first thought that entered my head was the three old blokes in last of the summer wine.

So if the truth be told the person who tried at least to lighten the subject was me,up pops smurfy and the rest is as they say history.........whenever there is a tragedy some disaster you can guarantee there will be humour, not because people don't care but that's known as graveyard humour and is  quite normal human behaviour.

So there we are and I plead guilty m'lud however I wasn't laughing about the deaths,on the contrary Nick Barry others and I have differed on this since the outset and still do,they have their opinions to which they are perfectly entitled and rather than go over my objections to their stance I chose to gently take the piss and compare them to last of the summer wine characters.
HTH.

Ok, we will let the matter pass, but no more jokes ok? Some of us are very sensitive about being dead.
