I am scared to go near the science museum these days in case they kidnap me and make me a museum exhibit. I learned a few months ago that the select band of six that walk the planet who know how to boot one of their cold war era computers recently reduced to five.  :'(

However, I might pop in to Cardiff's museum if the T@@@ in the bay ever reopens it.

Forty three years ago they installed a cloud chamber. I was terribly interested as it was one of the things i had to read up about for the subatomic particle physics module of my first year degree course.

I must have made twenty visits to the place in that year alone, and at least thirty more in the next decade. On each occasion I found the exhibit deactivated with an apology note advising me the cloud chamber was not functioning today. It is perhaps the one part of my academic study i never completed. If anyone knows a museum where they have one working, I'd love to know of it.

Why did they remove the Glen Strathallan's engine from the Science Museum ? I remember firing that when I was serving my time. Blisters on my hands, every joint leaking steam and us lads having a whale of a time.

No idea, as far as I am aware it was not there until 20 years after I went around the museum:-

Back when dinosaurs walked the Earth and there was still a decent bus service in rural areas, my mother used to whether I liked it or not take me to  museums, art galleries, places of heritage interest. (The nice policeman outside 10 Downing Street used my mothers camera to take a picture of me and mother stood in front of the door.)

The legacy of my mother taking me around every museum and art gallery in London and anywhere else the bus service would take us, is I am a mine of totally useless for any practical purpose knowledge.
I have not been to such places since my childhood, because I have desire to do so.

If they rebuilt the engine room they could charge every lad betweem eight and death telephone numbers for the chance to shovel coal and the queue would stretch from the museum entrance to Poplar Tech
