Well, with the absence of a Radar systems, having no aircraft is probably the best defense system the MOD can utilise.

Well (I've sad this before) i thought Corbyn's nuclear policy was a total master stroke, and audacious as hell.

The whole point about having a nuclear deterrent is you'll never use it, you just have to con the other side you might.

Corbyn had it bang on the nail when he said there was no need for our nuclear boats to have any nukes.

Those "in the know" know that the nuclear reactors that provide the power plant are only lightly shielded except for the direction in which the radiation would irradiate the crew, so in the water there's no way to know a boat wasn't carrying a nuclear payload. the reactor would spit out so much radiation any sensor would go nuts.

So putting a decoy operation on shore to make overhead surveillance think we still load em with nukes, and sending them to sea with just conventional front ends is the ultimate con trick.

The only flaw being the possibility that the enemy might get wind of this intent. Like by tuning in to the Andrew Marr show to hear the wannbe prime minister tell the world that's what he'd do. DOH !

Isn't forces procurement one of the areas that Dom Cummings is sworn to overhaul into ultimate efficiency? I seem to remember him describing it as a mess - and hard rain is coming.

People have being trying to overhaul Navy procurement since the Navy was established. (Which is the 14tn century at least.)

Just about the oldest chestnut in the fire. But the MoD has been very good at peeing cash up the wall for many years now. And that's only on comfort projects.

Not exactly news, but an 18th month delay on the radar system needs some explaining.

Ah yes. Crows Nest.

I think the short version is Thales got rid of all the competent radar developers some years ago. But then I'm biased because they were the guys that used to work for me back in the day.
