Personally I am much more offended by a nation more worried about litter in shop doorways than homeless in them.

Agree with your priority, but it's a measure of failure of National pride , that we allow both problems to blight our streets. It should be a simple matter of National pride to deal effectively with both problems.
It's a measure of any society as to how willing it is to clean up its environment , and not just exist in its own mess.

So am I, when around a 1/4 of rough sleepers are ex military, and around another 1/4 are those callously refused benefit.
It is also looking as if the support given to rough sleepers is coming to an end with no help in sight.
There are some 14 million people in Britain in precarity, one months income away from from ending up homeless.

We are not all in the same boat. We are in the same storm. Some of us have yachts. Some of us have canoes. Some of us are drowning.

To be fined, they have to be caught and that would involve the Police catching them in the first place.

Drones can be used to get photographic evidence. The police use drones already.  (Plus there is a military drone training school in Cornwall, it would be good practice.)

Well you didn't have to, but you did want to.

As for the topic, i don't know if just increasing the cost for a littering offence is the answer.
To be fined, they have to be caught and that would involve the Police catching them in the first place.
However they are a bit busy at the moment patrolling the stores to ensure everyone is suitably attired so there's not much chance of them catching someone burying a few lumps of charcoal.

I do also have to point out that non UK citizens are the worst culprits.

Not where I live, it looks like Glastonbury Festival camping habits are now the norm with the addition of human excrement.
This is just the tip of the iceberg, or more accurately pooberg. As it only refers to National Trust Property, and does not include all the other areas there has been and still is a problem.

I do also have to point out that non UK citizens are the worst culprits.

If our local Squirrels' ,Magpies and Foxes are deemed not to be UK citizens then I would agree . They along with the local council not emptying the bins are the main cause of the mess on our streets .

I would rather see a petition that forces councils to empty bins every week rather than every other one   .

We can at last agree on something, littering is a disgrace and why do smokers think they are special and the law doesn't apply.
Fag out the car window, plastic wrapping on the floor or even the contents of the ashtray on the floor. Drives me batty.
I do also have to point out that non UK citizens are the worst culprits.
I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you.

A toddler suffered burns to his feet after stepping on a disposable barbecue which was buried on Exmouth beach.

One-year-old Harry from Guildford in Surrey was on holiday with his parents and walking along the sand when he began screaming in pain.

His mum, Stephanie Rogers, told ITV West Country: "His knees buckled and he started screaming. I picked him up and couldn't see anything that could have caused it.

"My husband recoiled with his hand because the sand was incredibly hot. It was scorching. My husband got a shovel to have a look and it turned out there was a barbecue under there. I have no idea how long it had been there."

Help to preserve and protect our beautiful outdoor spaces, National Parks, and beaches by imposing higher fixed penalty fines for those dropping litter, and lighting barbecues on grass/moorland.

Fixed penalty notices should start at £1000 and be issued more readily, frequently, and proactively.

Recent news reports have shown many of the country's much treasured beauty spots being desecrated by people leaving beer bottles, takeaway wrappers, disposable barbecues and general waste behind. I believe widespread littering across the UK is the worst it has ever been. Our beautiful outdoor spaces are slowly being spoilt, and currently there does not appear to be a big enough deterrent as far as fixed penalty notices, fines and prosecution.
