Surely you can understand that? All advice appears to be in Welsh** for its 800,000 speakers (though how many are Welsh only?), whereas there's 1.2 million Pakistanis in the UK who we're often told don't mix and associate with their fellow citizens...

On climate change — we're talking, we're beginning to act, but we're still not doing enough...

Oh so they don't work in actual fact. Because otherwise Europe wouldn't be on the verge of a second wave, well who knew.

As far as I am able to find out the outbreak of infections across Europe has been caused by young people ignoring both the wearing of masks and ignoring social distancing.

My wife and I  booked a holiday next year after we were as "property owners" in France contacted by Brittany Ferries.
It looks if there are some overnight sailing that are property owner "club" only.
The holiday can be cancelled for a £20 charge.
We are leaving the travel/medical/repatriation insurance until nearer the time.

But the WHO were "advertising" a second wave before the first started to dip, so it had to come, didn't it, or they would have been wrong. They must all be prophets.

Quote from: Sheepy on July 28, 2020, 02:11:07 PMso if you wear a mask and I don't, I cannot give you covid anyway, so why all the fuss.

Yes you can, masks can lower the chance, but they do not zero it.

No, there was always going to be a second wave in Europe (and there will be in the U.K. too) the purpose of Masks, Social Distancing, Regular Handwashing etc is to reduce the impact of the wave. None of these steps (even in combination) will reduce your risk to zero, but they will reduce it nonetheless.

In any case I think the chance of me having an impact on your thinking is very close to zero if the above exchange is anything to go by, I'll leave my thoughts at that.

I'm confused.

When you said "can only come from those not wearing masks" who were you referring to? Who stated that?
It is the logic of the latest narrative, everyone who said wearing a mask will stop the spread of Covid, so wear your mask and you won't catch it or it wouldn't be an offence otherwise now would it?
So all those in Europe who have caught it this time around couldn't have been wearing masks. What is confusing about that?

It was confusing because my question was clearly and directly about attributing the statement you made to a source (which your post implied was the PM) and you're reply was instead a blurb about Belgium and France.

Anyways, that aside, it is now clear that the statement "can only come from those not wearing masks" was not a quote, but rather a product of your own "logic of the latest narrative".

Which has an obvious rebuttal - the statement is wrong because your logic is wrong. Masks reduce the probability  of the virus spreading, but they do not reduce it to zero.
No it wasn't I told you no, then I explained the logic behind it, you just didn't like that I was going on your own narratives, which are very questionable to say the least. so if you wear a mask and I don't, I cannot give you covid anyway, so why all the fuss.

Can you quote Boris making this "only" claim?

If he did say that then he is wrong.
No Boris said there looks like a second wave in Europe, according to what seems the narrative of today logically it would have to be people not wearing masks and not the previous logic of masks don't protect you.Europe is bracing for a second wave of coronavirus as continuing outbreaks raise the prospect of reimposed restrictions at a time when millions of people are travelling across the continent for their summer holidays.

The Belgian government has warned that country could be put into a second "complete lockdown" following a significant spike in infections, while the Spanish region of Catalonia may also have to reintroduce lockdown measures if outbreaks are not brought under control within 10 days.

In France, the health minister has called for greater vigilance after a sharp rise in Covid-19 cases in young people, and Germany's public health advisory body has said it is "deeply concerned" about the rise in cases over the past few weeks.
