Government could restrict travel beyond the M25 making it a ‘border point’

The idea of temporary internal borders to stop the spread of Covid-19 sounds drastic but if it helps reduce the spread then I'd support the idea.  A border round London is one thing, but what if there's a big outbreak in one are of London - maybe even just in one borough?  Would it be possible to isolate, say, Bromley, if there's a localised outbreak there?

Of course it's not just London where this might be necessary.

Sounds like a good plan to me, should have been done weeks ago:-

No, they should have made it a watertight dam, blocked up the river outlets and sewers, and watched the rats fight each other for the top floor of the shard...

I'd pay to stream it ...

Sheepy

I doubt they could enforce it anyway, more likely to scare people into different measures, the WHO has suddenly changed tactics themselves anyway after realising the damage that has already been done and the anarchy they have driven around the world.
Just because I don't say anything, it doesn't mean I haven't noticed!

Oh I would be in full agreement Thomas had they done it from the off . It seems everything is happening two months too late .
That the airports remained open when we were all sitting in doors watching box sets was quite frankly quite baffling but then again we were never really  in lockdown were we ?

I think the countries that coped the best with the first wave though ,those that closed their borders Aus ,NZ and Canada will be having the worst of it second time around .

I hope Im wrong

I know mate. Totally agree yet again.

Its easy to criticise governments i know , but to be fair they didnt have a clue how to deal with all this and simply followed the herd.

Having said that its madness locking down the whole of scotland when the big cities in the central belt was where the issues mainly were , and the rural areas like the highlands where my cousin is , with hardly any people also suffered lockdown. It appears to have been the same all over the world  , rural areas getting lumped in with lockdown becasue of the urban .

Common sense and perspective seems to have went right out the window , with the media and certain individuals stirring the pot relentlessly.

OT my cousin posted a video of farage on arsebook talking about migrants crossing the channel down your neck of the woods. Seems to be a free for all from what i am seeing  , with the uk government yet again being negligent on border patrol just as they were during the height of this covid crises.

The handwringers have plenty to say about those "nasty " young people not apparently obeying covid rules , or bleating about BLM , but they appear to be completely silent over the uninterrupted continuing flow of illegal immigration that continues unabated around the world amd the obvious risk of virus that comes with it....

Sounds like a non starter to me . Many thousands of people travel into London every day from  outside the M25. I myself when I get over this bastard virus normally work outside it but live inside it .

Completely understand that mate, but i know hiindisight is a wonderfull thing , but back in march London or greater london had 80% of the covid cases in the whole uk , and if they had done this then , it might have helped stop the spread and then we wouldnt have needed the whole uk locked down.

Coupled with the fact they let millions in through london airports unchecked or un quarantined.

I think both the scottish and uk governments are just floating ideas at the minute in case there is a second wave . Im sure we all agree they can't lock down everywhere yet again , and need to concentrate on the hotspots.

Back in march i think governments around the world simply ated like sheep and followed the herd , and locked down the way the chinese did , which we know now was wrong. Why should rural areas with little to no covid cases suffer complete lockdown when the problem is mainly in the big cities?

Surely locking down the cities where there is a problem and restricting travel in and out is the answer ?

Government could restrict travel beyond the M25 making it a 'border point'
BY LLB POLITICAL REPORTER AUGUST 2, 2020
Boris Johnson's Cabinet are considering restricting travel beyond the M25 under plans to avoid a second national lockdown.

It has further been reported that a city-wide lockdown on London is also being considered. Johnson is considering restrictions on travel in and out of the M25 in the event of a spike of cases in the capital to shield London.
