I've been on two crown court juries — I always supposed I got onto the second because of my ability to cut through crap and masking waffle, sift out the salient facts and arrive at the correct conclusion...

^^^
As both groups followed the same tactic, seems like mob rule is when those you disagree with succeed (temporarily in this case), but it's not mob rule when their opponents — who you agree with — overturn the first decision.
To me, both look like democratic actions using legal, available tools...

Didn't your larger and more active crowd on change.org overturn the decision and oust the trustees who'd responded to a smaller and less active crowd on change.org wanting Buckley out?
Was either mob rule...?

The first instance when he was sacked was motivated by the mob and a knee jerck reaction from the then trustees . The second instance was a crowd funding exercise which resulted in the hiring of someone expert in employment law and the end result of righting a wrong .

So the first was mob rule the second was following UK law .

Isn't that mostly democracy — whoever can get the largest, loudest and most active crowd out usually gets their point accepted...?

Quote from: Streetwalker on August 09, 2020, 09:44:19 AMNo thats mob rule with a side of anarchy , performed by those who have lost their argument through democratic means

That does not mean they are a majority.
It does on the day Mr doom and gloom.
Just because I don't say anything, it doesn't mean I haven't noticed!

If the reaction wasn't public it wouldn't have had the legs to get the guy fired — the public outcry over a posted opinion didn't happen in secret...

The public reaction and outcry from what i can see amounted to a change .org petition calling for his head that received a massive 465 signatures , while the counter petition to get him reinstated got 38 X that amount.

That public outcry? ;D

Reading that report makes me really quite sad. The mob mentality is really rife in this country, and others, it is quite worrying.

A small extremely vocal "woke " minority , representative on no can't but themselves in society , panicked the trustees into sacking him you mean.

"Sacked for publishing an opinion" would be the truthful title.
I haven't read the blog item concerned, but from what I see in the link, it's his opinion to which he's entitled. But it seems the public reaction to it panicked the trustees into sacking him.
There again I don't know the employment terms of the charity which may have been breached. However his legal team found a technical flaw in his dismissal, and he's now back. So how am I supposed to see "left wing Marxist highjack" ...?

Common sense has prevailed for once . Following a petition by the Free speech union   all the trustees that sacked him have resigned and the new board of trustees of the charity have reinstated him to his previous position .

Sacked for telling the truth seems a bit strong as a thread title

Reinstated on a technicality it appears, because the original trustees didn't follow the correct procedure. Let's hope the new lot are up to speed with charities law.
Sacked for telling the truth seems a bit strong as a thread title — it was only an opinion after all, which it looks like he'll tone down if the charity wants to concentrate on its good works...
