There weren't any lockdowns for the Asian flu, but ITV had only just been launched and advertising standards were not as po faced as they became. So we had lots of jolly ads by different aspirin manufacturers claiming that their pills would cure coughs, colds and pimples on the belly.

We knew how to enjoy our epidemics in those days. :)

LOL borkie.

One of the things i shall find most interesting is how many **FLU** deaths there are this year given that Covid has significantly culled the herd.

The mass deaths from full have been dramatically curbed since the annual mass flu inoculations were introduced.  I can't remember the year there were 50000 flu deaths but it is not that long ago, since then if memory serves the highest in recent year was 15000 in 2013.

Spanish Flu 1918/19  200k UK deaths (might include republic of ireland)
Asian Flu 1957/58 33,000 UK deaths
Hong Kong Flu 1968/69 80,000 uk deaths

Source credited as "UK Government Estimates" so probably bullshine
Were there any lockdowns for those? I suppose not, but then we didn't have self deprecating governments determined to kill the world economies.

There has been 40 thousand  covid  deaths  across the disunited kingdom , from memory about half of which is classed as excess deaths above the norm.

Not if Blair, comments on it apparently ,pathetic, but par for the course.  .

Whats pathetic about what?

Blair is yesterdays man , and the vast majority of people dont really care what his opinion is on anything.

You might worship at blairs feet , plenty dont.

QuoteTell the Families of the millions  Dead this has created that this has been dealt with well by in particular the clown in chief ,Boris . See how you get on .

Millions dead? What?

Dont you think you are being a tad over the top melodramatic?

There has been 40 thousand  covid  deaths  across the disunited kingdom , from memory about half of which is classed as excess deaths above the norm.

I dont think any political leader to a lesser or greater degree has handled this well. Certainly your hero blair wouldnt have done much better , and like the current world leaders he would have been running around like a headless chicken too.

I think blair is too busy being haunted by the families of the iraq war dead to worry about the families of covid deaths dont you?

I suppose in some people's worlds the absolute devastation to the economy caused by a second bout of Covid, is. Pie in the sky, if not comparable  to a moon made of cheese. Strange times we live in. And dam Tony for bringing the subject up. Far to realistic to be taken seriously.

Who isnt taking it seriously?

Havent you read many people posts on this forum talking about the economic downside of covid 19 over the past 4 months and more? Long before your hero blair put his jug eared head above the parapet to carp about it?

Thank god we have decent politicians like mrs sturgeon and mr johnson dealing with this instead of clowns like blair.

One of the most effective ways to make me doubt the wisdom of anything, is to demonstrate that Tony Blair advocates it.

But Blair has managed the singular achievement of being hated in equal measure by both left and right.

Quite. I never did like the smarmy git.

That's why Boris has said there won't be one.

Tony would say that the moon is made of cheese if it got him a crack at the leadership of the Labour party. His best bet is to leave UK politics alone and have a crack at being made Pope.
There are a few dictators here and there who owe him favours. He could happily land a position of influence with one of them. And from our perspective it has the advantage of getting him the hell away from our country.

You can be loved by the right and hated by the left as Margaret Thatcher was.

And you can be loved by the left and hated by the right as Tony Benn was.

But Blair has managed the singular achievement of being hated in equal measure by both left and right.

no borkie we want tony to stay and keep spouting his rubbish periodically.

Best thing since sliced bread for the indy movement in scotland.

Im seriously going to petition for a statue for tony blair if scotland gets her independence right smack bang in the middle of george square or sauchiehall street.

( or should that be george floyd square , the petty criminal?)
