These days I wander into pubs and restaurants with a phone i bought 20 years ago resembling the nokia nk702.

The look on the waitress's face when they ask me to "scan the QR code" and i bring this thing out is priceless.

As Bob Geldof said, the non-smart phones go for about a week, maybe more, on one charge...

My phone is as old if not older.

Yes when they say its available to everyone they are assuming we all have the modern mobiles with all the gizmos . My old site mobile (rubber bouncy non breakable ) has done me just fine for years but I read at the weekend that some bars in London were turning people away without the app .

If that catches on I had best stock up the fridge ,...............again .

Apparently 21% of UK adults do not own a smartphone:-

<t>In matters of taxation, Lord Clyde\'s summing up in the 1929 case Inland Revenue v Ayrshire Pullman Services is worth a glance.</t>

Sounds like a GDPR breach to me ....
That's what I thought, but Serco hide behind the "NHS" logo and pretend to be the NHS to con people into downloading the App, John. They will be using smoke and mirrors to try to fudge that little matter of GDPR. It will all be for the "greater good".

Received following email today:

QuoteThis is a public health message from NHS Test and Trace
As part of the government's coordinated response to Coronavirus, NHS Test and Trace has developed the new NHS COVID-19 app.

It is now available for download to all residents of England and Wales. We strongly recommend that everyone over the age of 16 downloads and uses it.

Download the 'NHS COVID-19' app from the App Store or Google Play. There is more information at https://covid19.nhs.uk

The app will help you to understand and manage your personal risk and reduce the spread of Coronavirus. The more people who use it, the more effective it will be.

The app requires operating system 13.5 or above if you have an Apple iPhone. It requires Android 6.0 or above if you have an Android phone. If your smartphone is not compatible, you can still access full support from the NHS Test and Trace service.

NHS Test and Trace

All individuals over the age of 16 who are registered with a GP in England and have provided an email address to the NHS are receiving this email. Some people will receive a text message instead, if an email address has not been provided.

I did wonder who had given "Serco" my email address. NHS test and trace is not actually the NHS, is it? It is all being outsourced to Serco.

Anyway, from other threads, it is obvious the App is crApp and I won't be sullying any devices.
