There's a hierarchy of hysteria on these forums and I wouldn't want him to be getting above himself and displaying more hysteria than the person above him in that hierarchy.

What happened to the duck who sat in the sun for too long?

Eventually, he quacked up.

I recently bought my pet duck a mask, to protect it from corona virus...
It's nothing flashy, but it fits the bill

I can't take my dog to the pond anymore because the ducks keep attacking him..
Guess that's what I get for having a pure bread dog.

How do ducks fly in Egypt?
They flock like an Egyptian.

I heard a man yelling 'DUCK, DUCK!'
Whatever he was talking about went right over my head

why did the ducks get arrested?
they sold quack

Like I posted on the poll thread, you can't have strangled ports and no deal.
So which one is it?
I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you.

Going back to the 'snotty nappy' outburst for a moment . . .    Masks are beginning to become fashion items, especially for young women. Also funny masks lighten things up.

So how about Harris tweed masks and matching deerstalker sets for those with a UKIP-esque tendency.

I'm sure there are already Scottish saltire masks and also ones with the other flags of Great Britain.

I'd like an EU flag mask but it might be best not to wear it in public now. Safer to wait until the effects of our paralysed container ports become widely felt and everyone's complaining about the palavar of obtaining a visa to go to France / Spain / Germany.

Well shit happens Javie.

Death is unfortunate but walking around with a snotty nappy tied to my face is undignified, so I don't bother. And there just aren't enough police or jail cells to handle the millions like me who feel the same way.

Funny, but have you actually looked into this.  The daily death counts adding up to 50,000 are only people who tested positive.  There are other people who had Covid who never tested positive for various reasons, so the real number is higher.

Most of the 70,000 excess deaths are either from Covid, or from the side effects of the pandemic.  Some of them are probably due to people failing to seek treatment due to being scared of catching Covid in hospital, which is also a side effect of the pandemic.  Bottom line is that 70k more people died than normal so far this year.

Good point.

Only 50,000 of those can be put down to Covid 19 so can we assume that the other 20,000are down to latter day Peter Sutcliffes ?

But apparently less so now than at the early stage of the pandemic. I remember they said that twice as many men were dying of covid-19 as women but a recent figure I saw was 55% to 45%.

What about the ONS excess death numbers showing around 70,000 excess deaths this year...

I wonder if some shyster lawyer will try to get compensation as the prison did not protect Sutcliffe from infection?

Peter Sutcliffe has been in lockdown for 40 years. Bet it says CV-19 on his death certificate.
I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you.

Quote from: johnofgwent on November 12, 2020, 02:52:50 PMTo re-iterate though, my main concern is simply that, when i put my white lab coat on and look at these numbers through those eyes, i cannot make sense of them to a degree that would allow me to approve publication. Now if that translates as "my lecturers, fellow researchers and fellows of my learned society moulded me as a sceptical curmudgeon", well so be it, they would wear that accusation as a badge of honour and a sign of a job well done given the frankly abysmal standard of some research papers allowed to be published in the 80's and 90's.
Any thoughts on my other point, the longevity (or not) of acquired immunity from the current vaccines ..

What about the ONS excess death numbers showing around 70,000 excess deaths this year, even in spite of lots of things that could normally cause deaths like road accidents, other contagious illnesses etc being probably reduced by restrictions or advice?  Are those numbers also wrong as I understand that they were always calculated in pretty much the same way from years before?

I was aware for ages before it was heavily discussed in the media about the 60 day rule - not sure how I knew about it but it must have been public somewhere if I knew.

Regarding the longevity of immunity - I guess we just don't know, and in normal situations you would be right.  But firstly we don't know to what extend reduced antibody levels after several months correlates with the protection disappearing, or whether in fact the vaccine will still act as a disease modifier (reduce or eliminate symptoms or worst side effect) for a longer time.

I'm not sure it matters because given the economic carnage globally caused by this pandemic, I think they will go for a vaccine that even only lasts for a few months and just say that vulnerable people have to take it every few months until they find a better one.

Proportionately, Belgium are on 1185, Spain 858, USA 746, and the UK 740. (Deaths per 1 million population).
I'm not sure each country is counting in the same way, it's not a competition, and the virus doesn't care if you are a Tory or a Labour supporter.
Apparently it cares whether you are a man or woman, and it cares if you are of Asian heritage.

If you want to get technical, it cares most of all if you are younger or older, and aren't migrants tending to be on the younger side? So all counted, it probably effects indigenous folk worse overall.

Then again I don't propose the sheep to the slaughter strategy of herd immunity which is disproven as the antibodies rapidly decline. ;)
