Now about this love of freedom you Brits are always talking about

Certainly there are those who are trying to restrict our freedoms.
But I wouldn't attribute a great deal of success to their actions.

I'm sure if you Google Daily Mail stories you will come up with plenty of exceptions to that rule.

Even if I knew what you were talking about it'd still be tedious. ;)

My point stands, it's one rule for them and one for us. And if yoy don't believe me then google people being arrested, fined etc for minor infringements.

That's how it is.

Or else......
Nothing. Typically.

We are ruled by consent.

I agree not to speed in my car.
But no one is actually watching.

I agree not to murder anyone.
There is no policeman constantly preventing me.

I am free.

Where are my freedoms infringed?
In the work place, in exchange for money.
I'm paranoid about what I write on the internet.
In the "supermarket".
I can't buy everything I would wish to buy.
Some of it is banned. From EU banned weedkillers, to extra big arsed guns like I have had in other countries. Certain medecines perhaps.

And then there are inhibitions. Limits to my freedoms.
The types of gun I may have.
The need for a passport to travel through major transport hubs.
The need for a driving lisence, insurance and an MOT.
A parking permit. A house tax. and so on.

But I have travelled and I live as free here as most people in the world can claim to do.

And I flip between these thoughts.... and the idea that I live in the most totalitarian society of all, as the mood takes me.

Well Corbyn is allowed to have six guests round his house and Stanley Johnson is allowed to go into a shop without being fined without a mask.

The rules they set don't apply to them, but we have to follow them or else.

I'm sure Inspector Javert or Sylabub or hyperspanner will be along soon to correct this misspeaking, and will tell us how all details must be given at pubs to random bartenders who can harass the crap out of you if they feel like it.

I'm all for freedom, but I would hate to inadvertently murder my grandmother.
Papasmurf says the Tories have a plan to take away our freedoms, well, the law hasn't even changed and they have already done it. According to them, I can't pop around my grandchildren's house and give them a hug. Yet the nursery staff can.
Needless to say, I'm keeping my freedoms.
Well nothing like adding a little perspective Barry.
Just because I don't say anything, it doesn't mean I haven't noticed!

Now listen up, this all has to stop right now, you have voted against the Westminster party, now you are getting uppity about the Corporations using Covid to close down your local businesses and become the wholly dominant force in business and politics, stop moaning about your pointless lives and get with the program, wear your mask while the corporations take full control, you know it makes sense you useless plebs.
Sir starmer is correct of course only corporate money matters.
