Sadly I do wonder if they are losing their theological way. I feel so sorry for those who follow their guidance.

Having just heard about this it makes me wonder. He is going for spiritual renewal, prayer and reflection. So why is he deciding either to study in Cambridge or alternatively USA? Am I missing something? Does it mean that he has doubts? Does it mean that perhaps he is unwell? Is he struggling with the Cof E's potential plans to allow same sex marriage?

It seems a really odd decision to me.
