OK lab coat time.

...

And nothing, and i mean *NOTHING* protects you from what popular science fiction refers to as the Heyflick Limit. Which is a sci-fi way to describe what happens when you run out of telomeres.

What do you think of this?

Unlike fine wines and cheeses, I can't imagine that age is going to improve any of the posters on here

HDQQ

Science has increased the average life expectancy through improving health and nutrition but it hasn't increased the potential lifespan of healthy people who eventually die of 'old age' as it were.

I might not be an expert but I do know enough to correct you when you're wrong!

It seems aging can now be completely reversed.

But how long is too long a life? I know it sounds bizarre and random but I thought of 16 million years and it made me feel anxious, so I'll pick that just because .........

OK lab coat time.

SO, my postgrad studies were all concerned with isolating mammalian cells and sustaining them in culture as a model for metabolic studies, and the transport of long chain molecules through transport protein receptor sites embedded in the cell membrane ....

My nephew is currently donning a white coat weekly to use the techniques the team I worked with perfected thirty years ago, to maintain mouse ovarian cells for his studies in carcinoma development.

Guess what his Ph.D thesis was about.

Telomeres.

I read the article

I know a bit about hyperbaric therapy too, both from my recreation as a scuba diver, which I never had cause to take advantage of, thank goodness.

But the idea that mucking about with the pressure of the atmosphere in which you live reverses the sacrifice of the telomeres as your cells multiply is utter bullshit.

Sorry. This article has about as much 'veritas' as the holy grail, the esoteric order of Dagon, and count bloody Dracula being anything other than a very ill man struck down with porphyria.

Feel free to believe that pressurizing and depressurizing your life wil prolong it and reverse the signs of ageing all you like

It's about as real as aliens caused freddy starr to eat muy hamster.

And this i *KNOW*

Because we cultured those cells in a whiole range of atmospheres, varying composition and pressure.

And nothing, and i mean *NOTHING* protects you from what popular science fiction refers to as the Heyflick Limit. Which is a sci-fi way to describe what happens when you run out of telomeres.

But hey, maybe consuming the blood of virgins once a year - maybe at passover ?? invalidates about fifty man years of research ....

Well I guess the ongoing progress of medical science has extended life for many of my generation and will go even further for generations to come .  I read a while back that children born today will  have every chance of a telegram from King George .

I doubt that the majority of people would chose to age if they were able to maintain the biological profile of a 20/30 year old. Seems a big step forward in overcoming the technicalities ageing.
Don't believe everything you think.

Interesting that came up in Spanish, which I enjoyed reading, taking it with un poquito de sal.
Three score and ten seems a fair number.
