borkie with respect mate i think you are getting the wrong end of the stick.

When your daughter decided to home school her kids , im sure she planned it well in advance and made a lot of preparation.

Im talking about how the current home schooling has been thrust on millions of gerenally unprepared families  due to the chinese sniffles, and the current impracticality of it .

Kids going to school isnt just for education......its also child care for working families where both parents are working. For poorer families, especially single mothers , its often the only break they get all week fro dealing with the kids.

I can't see home schooling catching on for the majority to be honest mate. As i said its deeply unpopular in my experience , as evidence by the tiny majority who actually home school in normal times.

If it does though , and im completely wrong , i would watch my back if i were a teacher , as they might find their jobs going as teachers become replaced by software engineers and schools get closed and sold off when government realise the billions they will save .

The modern woman , just like the modern family , isnt geared up to going back to the days of mum being at home cooking cleaning and looking after the kids 24/7. Women dont want it .

Pretty much my point Tommy.

Kids go to school because otherwise only our love would keep us from killing them. And even then it is touch and go.

My comments were aimed at Pappy who was talking his usual bollocks about multi ethnics schools.

You are right about the effect of technology on education, although I doubt that teachers as such need worry about their jobs just yet. With all the moaning and groaning from teachers and pupils and the assurances that they would rather sit on a hot poker than go to school, classrooms have a horribly compelling appeal.

I reckon that you are both right.

My daughter home schooled all her children until they reached secondary level whereupon she said, f**k it, let someone else suffer. They were all streets ahead of their new classmates in education and pure devilry. There is no better teacher than a parent and there is not better feeling than when your little angels walk through the school gate and you think thank you God, I have a couple of hours to myself.

Obviously there are parents who are not capable of home schooling. In my case as a child my mother was not one of those.
I could read, write, and do basic arithmetic, before I started primary school.
My relatives children attend a school that is  of the multi-ethnic type where many of the children do not have English as a first language.  It is no wonder my relatives children are thriving away from that environment.

I once taught a class that had 53 different languages. The kids did fine. All they needed were parents who believed in them and a solid family background.

Of course, it helped that they were out of the house for 8 hours a day, which gave the parents a welcome break.

You dont have any children do you smurf? You can tell you dont have a feckin clue.

Home schooling is deeply unpopular. Most mothers i know are feckin stressed out of their eyeballs becuase of it.

You have many poorer kids who dont have the access to equipment needed , and parents in many cases who themselves are trying to work from home while looking after younger kids who are working from home.

You can't do practical stuff like experiments in sciences , PE etc , and my daughter was only saying last friday while she was doing her work online , the teacher was dealing with the plumber in the background who had come to fix the teachers heating , on top of the fact the teachers own young kids were running riot in the background.

Deeply unpopular , despite what the socialst workers unions might tell you , and deeply impractical.

I reckon that you are both right.

I can only comment that a relatives children are getting on better with their education at home than they were when at school.

Alternatively it could lead to massive gains for the kids and parents wondering what the hell the education industry has been with our money for all these years.  :)
