Just at the moment Boris seems to be getting it right, but that's a bit like saying a you think (fingers crossed) that an enraged baby has finally gone off to sleep.

I might not be an expert but I do know enough to correct you when you're wrong!

I take it you haven't seen the size of the dividend pile those SAGE guys are going to make from forcing their vaccines on you
Have to say I cannot see much to support such cynicism among the UK Sage membership:

SAGE COVID-19 Register of Participants' Interests

And the WHO SAGE Working Group on Covid-19 vaccines also seems bombproof against any allegations of personal gain:

Having said that, I'm happy if these influential committees do have access to senior personnel involved with vaccine production and can be questioned about, and advise on, important aspects of manufacture and supply...

PS: I do see one participant in UK Sage is connected with Ocado — I guess the rise in home delivery won't harm the business...
On climate change — we're talking, we're beginning to act, but we're still not doing enough...

Our comparative success with the vaccine appears to be something they've got right for once, perhaps because for once they didn't farm it out - without so much as a tendering process - to their Tory donor mates in the private sector.

The EU is doing less well it seems. All of which of course plays into Johnson's hands, particularly since memories tend to be short.

Also, when doubts over the wisdom and handling of Brexit were becoming apparent, this suddenly makes it look like a good idea again to all the Brexit faithful. Which again plays into Johnson's hands.

And Starmer's opposition will struggle to find any kind of decent attack angle here. On top of his previous leadership failings and reversion to leadership by focus group, we can expect a Tory bounce in the opinion polls.

Will it last? Who can tell. Starmer needs to change the narrative but I don't think he is the man to do it.

Many in Labour voted for him purely because they thought he was a winner. If and when that is revealed not to be the case, support for him inside the party will start to crumble.

<t>In matters of taxation, Lord Clyde\'s summing up in the 1929 case Inland Revenue v Ayrshire Pullman Services is worth a glance.</t>

Me.

I have had some bug for the last fortnight and then on Friday I had the jab. Now I am sleeping 23 hours out of every twenty four and only get up to crap through the eye of a needle. I only had the shot to keep her quiet and now she is dancing around, making tea, tearing up the bedsheets and although dripping with concern, clearly having a whale of a time.

That said, Boris's luck does seem to have turned for the better and the EU's for the worse.

We are not all in the same boat. We are in the same storm. Some of us have yachts. Some of us have canoes. Some of us are drowning.
