I thought that standards had risen recently.

A while back a journalist friend said that she was writing an article on the terrible state of education in the UK and that since I had been a teacher (crap degree from a worse poly, no other choice), she would be obliged for my advise.

I then asked her how she knew that UK education was in such a state.
She said that it was because the newspapers said so.
I said that she was a newspaper girlie and she did not know.
And she said that I should shut up, but only after giving her a bit of background so that she could write the sort of story that folk like to read, i.e UK schools are shit.
Fair enough I said. As long as you are not compromising your journalistic integrity.
I was about to suggest that the standard of British journalism would be improved if the media hired a few hardworking Chinese spies, but thought, nah, best not.
