London Rubber Co might have prevented a couple more toxic spills, but that's conjecture...

I think it might be the other problem. Chemicals we use are too safe and do not do the job. I was wondering say for jobs like oven cleaning, one could just buy the active ingredients and use it neat.

That applies to weed killer these days. The only way I can get it to be effective is to directly inject it neat with a hypodermic syringe.

(That is a lot safer anyway I am not going to bump off any of the neighbours cats that way.)

AkzoNobel. I have just found similar "wear a Porton suit," instructions on a container of mould and mildew remover made by the London Oil Refining Company.

Yeah sometimes things go a bit mad,a large supermarket chain (Morrisons I think) recently had to bin a large number of bags of peanuts because they forgot to print on the packet this product contains nuts

But it doesn't. Peanuts aren't nuts but legumes such as peas and beans.

That sort of thing would not have happened under Sir Ken.

Earlier this evening there was a two hour long investigation program on French TV about what household and agricultural chemical are carcinogenic, endocrine disruptors and other problems. (They program did hair analysis of people living various distances from where a field where a farmer sprayed various chemical over the course of a year. Even 250 metres away was not far enough.

Having just read the "elfin safety" advice on a spray can full of rust inhibiter and the list of contents in it, I wonder why it is allowed to be sold to the general public.

Hmmm.

Yes, I do. Well, its seals are probably a bit dodgy now but with a positive pressure over atmospheric maintained inside from bleeding extra air into.it, I might look like a cross between the Michelin man and mr Bobby but I should be able to decontaminate most hazards ...

To be fair the chemicals in the rust inhibiter are dangerous/deadly  if ingested or inhaled. I just think the safety instructions are over the top.

I have in the past used an agrichemical (now banned,) to kill off all the vegetation on a plot of land. A thimbleful in two gallons of water.

(It did that the next day it looked as if the plot had been napalmed.)

That really did need Porton suit type of precautions, as it was just one step down from weapons  grade nerve agents. It would  kill you over time not within minutes. (It degraded in Sunlight in four hours and it was safe to grow vegetables on the land.)
