Any extra taxes for healthcare social or otherwise should come with the reforms that cut the waste ,fraud and non jobs that are common in the NHS .

Maybe then  we wont mind throwing a few more bob at it

^^^.
Could be, but it depends what's taxed.
I'd confine it to income — maybe including capital gains and windfalls — and selling a larger expensive residence for a smaller less expensive home might, though not necessarily, get caught up in that. As always the devil is in the detail, but I do not think any sources of income should be exempt (unless there's a need to attract some types of investment).
I'd also go after evasion of property put in offsprings names — unless the resident parent pays a market rent or, if the parent moves out, it's subject to gift tax.
All easily evaded, but will probably still involve some extra expense spread round — so possibly worth it as a deterrent...

Wealth tax can be unfair — eg, what happens to a retired a house owner whose property has soared in value, but whose pension is barely adequate to live on?

Ah, you mean Londoners?

Yes, I can't see that going down well among the capital's lefties.

The rural slum is in my son's name but we are having to give careful thought to the future of the pokey, but vastly overpriced London hovel.

Why introduce a new tax when all personal taxation can be fairly levied on income, all income from whatever source...?
