That's a very good objection — and the main reason I believe it should be included with tax on all sources of income. This could still start at £12,750 or whatever, and the bands adjusted as required...

£12750 is still far too low.

Absolutely, National Insurance contributions should be scrapped, then income taxation would be more transparent.
The system is, however, used as a basis for pension payments, but I'm sure that could be amended.

Why would it be more transparent if it was in the Tax take? Surely it's just as simple if Govs have a mind to hide what they are doing wherever the sum is. I would have thought that more diversity would be better. They should have different envelopes for different bills - you know what I mean!  ;D

On climate change — we're talking, we're beginning to act, but we're still not doing enough...

Couldn't agree more!

I am all for Pat and Barry paying to keep me alive so I completely agree. In fact it has already started with the tax thresholds being frozen for the next four years. We aren't talking telephone numbers but post covid mini boom should boost wages and thus taxes. That should bring a smile to  Rishi Sunak's somewhat pained chops.

Along with an increase in income tax (on all income — earned and unearned) seems to me a fairer way to raise money for NHS, care and welfare than the direct tax increase on workers and jobs.

But it's currently up to Boris...

Problem is you actually have to be in power to do things like that.
Good luck with that one.
I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you.
