There is a story that probably is not true but should be, that the reason Scotch whisky became popular was because of the excise tax imposed by the government. Raw whisky is sad stuff and was not that popular anyway. But what with the excise men patrolling the borders the distillers had to store the stuff and bide their time. So they put it in cheap sherry barrels and let it age before picking a time when Rabbie Burns was writing his poetry and they could then bring this by now most subtle of Scottish wines to eager customers in the south.

Talk about making a drama out of a crisis . As we have said many times the points based immigration system if implemented properly would see HGV drivers as a desired occupation which would give them lots of lovely points .

This government has failed miserably on immigration , blocking out people we need and letting in people we dont .

Long queues of motorists waiting to fill up their tanks are continuing for a second day - as the government is expected to clear the way for a visa change allowing thousands of foreign lorry drivers to work in the UK.
