Wiggles, you want to try dating this chick.

However, there's no such thing as a free lunch. You have to pass a test.

Q2) What did she say as 4:37?

I've been listening to quite a few interviews and broadcasts in general, and I'm finding it harder and harder to decode modern speech. If I listen to a BBC programme of the 1950s or 1970s, the person on the box generally manages to pronounce his words properly.

I was just trying to listen to an interview on the BBC's Click programme, which is like a Tomorrow's World type programme on technology. The one being interviewed was a film maker, and the guy sat there for half an hour mumbling on, but even when playing bits of the clip 3-4 times, the word I'm trying to decode just comes across as totally inaudible. Well you can hear a noise but it does not resemble a word in my head. Then to make matters worse, the BBC man doing the interviewing was trying to be expressive (or whatever the word is for it is at the BBC training session) where the expressive pronunciation masks the intelligibility of the word. When he had to say the words "antonymous cars" it sounded more like "auto ominous cars"! Perhaps that was a Freudian slip, but hey, these guys are on a salary and you guys pay for it. What do you say?

I watch Click because I love Lara Lewington, and I want to have her babies

Sorry, I can't understand what you are saying. Are there subtitles?

I'm not blaming you. You probably picked it up from working for the state. It's an occupational hazard that in every state enterprise, one is indoctrinated with PC. One is trained in the art of official denial. That's why life when one is running one's own enterprise it is freedom, because they are then your customers, so you can say what you like to them. There is a long British tradition in this and clearly ample material to write a book on.

You people who issue official responses. I'm a kind of lingual detective. I can trace implanted thought processes.

Sorry, I can't understand what you are saying. Are there subtitles?

I guess you people are well-trained in your respective jobs to issue official responses of a PC nature.

Who are "you people", for goodness sake. What little pigeonhole do you, with those bigoted thoughts, think I sit in?

When we are ready. Just because you start a thread doesn't mean you control it.

I asked politely for you to keep to the topic of the thread, which you were not.

What you two gave me back then were like 'official responses' . You know the sort of thing, like if I said to a member of the NHS that I thought they discriminated against men for some perhaps obvious reason, then they would issue an official response, word for word, and it would be very boring.

So I mentioned the word Jew and that triggered an official response, where the response is to deny an often repeated accusation. I got another one a little while back from someone else when I confirmed nursing is a woman's job. The official response often does not fit the issue it responds to very well because it is like boilerplate code, and on this occasion it was falsely triggered by the trigger happy. That's why i called it a Jew commercial, as per the official response would always be answering for  the Jew if it were triggered by a Jew cue.

Actually I found it quite amusing. I guess you people are well-trained in your respective jobs to issue official responses of a PC nature.

Anyway, here's the next challenge. Let me know what you think that sentence means of the EU bureaucrat. I had a little think about that and came to the view that it could be that even the translator for the subtitles gave up.

Can we get back to the thread after that Jew commercial please?

When we are ready. Just because you start a thread doesn't mean you control it. That's for the moderators.

Jew commercial? Really? Is this you showing your true colours? You've been called out with your name calling against the PM and you don't like it. Why should we put up with your irritating offensive name calling, without pointing it out for what it is. Bigotry.

QuoteNeither of you have taken an interest on what i put up.

The thread subject is scintillating I know, but a minor diversion can always be exciting.

I beg to differ Stanley Johnson mother died shortly after he was born, his father last name Kemal returned to Turkey where he became a Minister in the Turkish Government and later assassinated

Stanley and his sister Selma were brought up by their English grandmother, Margaret Brun, and took her maiden name of Johnson, Stanley's father therefore becoming simply Wilfred Johnson.

Boris is not Jewish because his Mother as far as I am aware was not Jewish her maiden name was Fawcett therefore Boris is not Jewish not that it makes any difference if he was or is,the paternal line of Jews follows the Mothers ancestry not on the Fathers.

I think that the UK Prime Minister deserves to be referred to either by his name or his office, not by his great-grandfather's name. Why do you insist on this constant childish reference? His full name is Alexander Boris de Pfeffel Johnson.

Boris Johnson would do. PM would do. BoJo would do. Is it because you disapprove of his ancestry?

If it is OK to call him Boris then it is OK to call him Kemal. That's what he should be called, but his father did what a lot of Jews did once and changed their names to fit in with our culture. I choose to use the ancestral family name to remind people who he is. I'm not disapproving of it. If he turns out to be good then Turks will be seen in a good light. The name tends to be seen as good or bad according to how the thing performs, like Made in China could have once been at the detriment of sales, although in the future it might be the sign of quality.

OK we need another example to work through. Subtitles have helped me here, so I quote them verbatim.

The issue is about Kemal saying he will leave the EU by the end of 2020 whether people are ready or not. This is the response from the EU bureaucracy:

"What you called it a cliff edge I'd never be the choice of do you never stronger"

The encounter starts just after 4:00
