If only Spain were in the EU...

Here's another example of the "race to the bottom" in Spain:

Adriana Ampueda had been working for seven years at a call center run by Extel in A Coruña, in the northwestern Spanish region of Galicia, when she took 11 days off for gastroenteritis and aphonia.

On Monday, when the 42-year-old Venezuelan returned to work she was fired – even though she had a doctor's certificate. Spanish unions have identified a number of similar cases since October 29, when the Constitutional Court ruled that a company has the right to dismiss an employee who misses work for medical reasons, even if the sick leave was justified. "What do they want us to do? Lie to the doctor?" asks Ampueda.

Ruthless.

...They might treat their animals better and they might even care about meat being fit for human consumption.  :fpigs:

You see, there's a lot of hype about a "race to the bottom", but Britain has been at the forefront of animal and bird protection with RSPCA RSPB and similar organisations.

How dare the EU try to accuse us of a race to the bottom.

Don't mention the bullfighting.  :shrg:

Or nocking a chickens head off with a golf club whilst the poor animal is buried up to its neck. 😖
I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you.

Yes it is a bit of a joke when the EU talk of animal welfare and harmonising standards when they turn a blind eye to the traditions of certain nations .

Along with Spanish and Portugal bull rings we have the annual slaughter of millions of what we would call garden birds in France ,Italy and Greece  . The killing of pigs  in 'traditional ways ' in various eu states isn't exactly humane yet  the Lisbon treaty recognises animals as sentient beings  . Go figure .
