You prob meant the Germans, not the french as it was Merkel that was being quoted. Like I said you should read the article, it's a total non story, obviously the UK could be a potential competitor of the EU as it's not a member.

Presume you mean German, Also presume you mean the Germans do want the UK on a level playing field otherwise the UK could have an advantage, so yes if the UK remove workers  rights then yes the UK has an advantage and giving them full access to the EU markets under that condition would be pretty stupid.

The EU has said they now fear the UK will join the US and China as a ruthless economic competitor.



Look it up, the Independent, the Express, FT.

That's hilarious, The USA 21T and China 14T who are competing markets for the EU at 18T. But the new kid on the block is the UK 2.8T, that's really got everyone in a spin.

There's more worry about Japan at 5T or India at 3T and growing fast.

A large percentage of the UK trade is in services, cutting all your FTA's is a serious threat to that, I think the UK would need to be watchful of China & USA and possibly the EU targeting that market, it's far easier to replicate that goods sales.
