Indeed. I suspect the timing isn't a coincidence. Perhaps a message of annoyance towards the government without the unprofessional statement. Although I am sure he was honoured to take the role on, I just expect he couldn't be associated with this government anymore when something else came up.

I might not of ever agreed with lockdowns and thought the health advice was beyond cautious all the time, but Van Tam was one of the sole voices of distain towards rule breaking in government and we should applaud him of his moral duty if nothing else.

So Jonathon Van-Tam has had his 15 minutes of fame and moves back to academia. Is this a further sign of life returning to normal or him distancing himself?
