What was I saying about blindly trusting professionals, such as GPs?

"NHS officials 'took £70,000 bribes from drugs companies to recommend their medicines to GPs'"

"the court heard the 'integrity' of NHS doctors making honest recommendations about prescription drugs was breached and medicines were improperly pushed to GP surgeries and advisory boards."

Those princes who have done great things have held good faith of little account, and have known how to craftily circumvent the intellect of men.  Niccolò Machiavelli.

Now I may be a bit of a cynic where the NHS is concerned but this article was not a surprise. Surely it has long been known that doctors are constantly feted by drug companies with freebies of varying values. Years ago it came to my knowledge of free foreign holidays offered to push certain 'cures' so why is this any surprise to anyone? Let's face it the Doc watches his screen more than the patient if you manage to get to see him/her and that prompts all sorts of things not even under discussion. Of course each time they obey their screen there is a payment. It's been some time since the patient really came first.

These guys simply continued an already known process but wholesale.

I had a  personal example just this week. I had a notification that I needed a Pneumonia jab. I asked why expecting a lung reason. 'Because you are a coeliac' I was told. I am not! It took some persuasion to convince her that her screen was wrong, and even more persuasion to get her to alter the record. I am not convinced that she has but that is a follow up to come.
