Streetwalker

When I first started playing golf and spent half my day in the long grass looking for my miss hit shot I would end up getting eaten alive by the locals  . I learnt the hard way and even now when my visits to the undergrowth are less common I still cover any exposed flesh with Jungle ,Jungle super strength tropical bug repelent .

The thing is though I have a bottle of the said repelent in the golf bag I still go for a walk over the downs without giving it a second thought .

A timely reminder toots to spray up ;D

I can imagine that all you chaps are desperate to get your shorts out in the hope that they haven't shrunk in the cupboard over the last winter. The warnings are out about ticks. They used to be prevalent in certain wooded areas or around sheep/deer but are apparently becoming more widespread. You are better tucking your trousers into socks.

It's not just a bite but unless caught early with antibiotics can be life debilitating. So beware! The most noticeable thing is a large red bullseye mark while the centre stays normal. Most GPs don't recognise it and I have one experience where I had a nasty bite and had to prompt the doc to look up tic bite on her screen to compare mine. She promptly put me on strong antibiotics 'just in case'.

My window cleaner's daughter has battled this now for 10 years. They have tried everything both in America and Germany. Here they simply don't recognise it but cases are increasing. She is in her mid 30s now and can't even stand the bedclothes touching her body and spends most of the time moaning in pain. All her senses are massively heightened as this infection gradually pervades her body so the family have to cook meats etc outside, she cannot stand the light, smells or noise. She has no life. The NHS has failed at every level of her illness. The only help they have received they have paid for, but sadly nothing has worked.

I always feel tired and lacking in energy and suffer from muscle and joint pain and tell Madam I should do less and spend more time in bed.She just goes into full nurse Carole Young mode and arranges appointments with the GP. Never a suggestion that I come off the waggon, have a few brandies and maybe even a decent cigar. I tell you, medicine hasn't been all progress
