I heard a comment the other day where it was said by a Southern Irish pundit that the system at present totally suits them but recognised that it was pretty bad for Northern Ireland. Of course Varadkar had the EU ear for quite some time during the negotiations. I think the EU should face up to it's own responsibilities and sort out it's own borders with them. It's a nonsense the way it stands. Unless of course Ulster would like to link back up with the South, but that's unlikely still.
When you say southern irish toots , you do realise the most northerly part of the island of ireland is in the republic?

How is the protocol pretty bad for northern ireland? Some 95 % of northern irish business support it , and the majority of the northern irish voters not only supported staying i nthe eu , but as i said mere weeks ago voted for pro protocol candidates for stormont. So the vast majority of northern ireland dont agree with you. Even the latest economic figures show northern ireland to be the only place in the uk along with london doing well , with the obvious inferrance the protocol is helping this "sick man region " of the uk to outperfom others .

Im not sure its fair once again why people in your country should be telling others in other countries what to do over borders , especially in northern ireland where they are happy with thngs as it stands.

A few angry orangemen dont represent the majority. I predict boris having got his few headlines will do nothing medium term .

I have no ideas about the Northern Ireland Protocol or realised that Ulster even had an economy, but if we want it and it is pissing off the Mocks, how bad can that be?

Exactly what I've been saying, put the border issue and GFA firmly in the EU's lap, let them put a fence up or magically come up with Tech that doesn't exist, allegedly.
I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you.

As far as I can make out Toots, the southern Irish don't want a border, the northern Irish don't want a border and the British don't want a border.

So it is handbags at dawn because you don't have to be very bright to be a politician
Dancing Dancing I think that might be very true! The only ones who do want a border are the EU. So perhaps it's time for them to sort it with the South. Like I said all along the South should have come out with us.
