Could be Tommy.

Boris must know that few of his grassroot supporters give a toss about Northern Ireland, but he also knows that there is mileage in telling the Fenians and EU to f**k off, so I dare say that this nonsense will drag on for a while yet.

To be honest I am still not sure what the fuss is about.

Northern Ireland hasn't exported anything since the Titanic sank and the IRA blew up all the shirt making factories. And the south's main export is dodgy accountants and colleens for London pubs and Edinburgh Call Centres, none of which are taxable.

Lets see what happens borkie before crowing too soon shall we. The bill has passed the first of many hurdles , but northern ireland as i type is still in the EU.

My money is on bojo kicking the can into the long grass despite al lthe bluster.

If he does actually take northern ireland out as promised , ( the promises of a liar eh? :D ) i will be the first to acknowledge the error of my ways. If not , be sure i will be here to remind you of his bulshit and northern irelands place in the EU.

...Fine Gael MEP for Ireland South Seán Kelly has been appointed lead author in finalising the draft legislation...

Mr Kelly said the UK under Boris Johnson has become "an unreliable diplomatic partner", and that the EU needs the appropriate tools to protect itself.
"The UK is not coming to the table and they're playing games for political reasons.

"They're pretending they can solve everything and it's no big deal, and they can break international law and it's no big deal, and they can ignore the result of the Northern Ireland Assembly elections where a majority were in favour of the protocol and it's no big deal.
"I would hope and I almost believe that the UK would pull back from the brink."

According to the world bank,

https://data.worldbank.org/indicator/NY.GDP.MKTP.CD?end=2020&locations=EU&start=1970&view=chart

the GDP of the EU in 2016 was 13.89 trillion USD, the 2020 figure is 15.29. That's 10% not 15%.

A study of the graphs on that site show some interesting trends. The Eu had a bumper year while the UK was tanked by Brown and the banking chaos his laissez faire attitude caused, for example
The graph also doesn't show any figures after the U.K. left. The EU's GDP has to have fallen by at least 13% as that was the value of the UK's % GDP.
I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you.

Sadly, the UK government is playing to the gallery, seeking to curry the favour of those who think all the bloody foreigners are out to shaft us and live in a mindset where they wish we could send in the gunboats again.

Rather than do the right or responsible thing. The Ukippers and former BNPers who voted for Bozo the Buffoon to get Brexit done need to be kept on board somehow, and to hell with international law and treaty obligations entered freely into, and minor niceties like that.
i agree , this is all about bojo saving his skin and appeasing the hard right elements like the ERG.

Going back to the protocol ,i pointed out on here the other day to brexiters that the majority in northern ireland , in terms of voting public and business favour the NIP. On top of the fact northern ireland voted to remain , and a few weeks back voted in majority of 58 % of mlas in stormont seats who support the protocal  , im no sure why appeasing a tiny vocal orange minority or appeasing a simlarly tiny minority in england will work long term.

I think its all just political can kicking by bojo to save his skin. He has already said he wont give the bill a second reading unless the DUP go back into power sharing , which they wont do under a sinn fein first minister. So i think it unlikely all this bluster will go far. Its deliberately set up for a stalemate.

Im pretty sure even daft tories dont want a trade war with the EU or to upset washington.

We are not all in the same boat. We are in the same storm. Some of us have yachts. Some of us have canoes. Some of us are drowning.
