Who knows?
There seems complete confusion about what's Civil Service an what's Public Service.
But it's apparently abandoned now, anyway...
No confusion here Posty , one serves the public the other serves themselves

Does levelling up include removing the London rates that the MET and other southern based forces get?

Ah, good one.

Successive governments have tried to reduce the London Weighting and got away with it for quite a while because everyone wants to be a copper or a fireman and I was about the only civil servant that I know of that actually lived in London.

It will be interesting to see how it all works out.

Looks like there's still time for incompetency and mistakes to count...

Liz Truss has been forced into a U-turn over plans to lower public sector pay in less affluent parts of the country following a backlash from Tory MPs who described it as a "pay cut for Northerners" – reigniting the Tory leadership race.
The reversal came just hours after the Foreign Secretary's announcement of the policy on Monday, when she said she wanted to shake up the Whitehall pay system as part of a "war on waste" in the public sector.
And the plan was blasted by northern Tory MPs supporting leadership rival Rishi Sunak, who have said it would reverse any progress in "levelling up" disadvantaged regions of the UK.
However the Truss campaign hit out at what they said was a "wilful misrepresentation of our campaign" – arguing that the new system would have applied to new contracts not existing ones.
[but the Truss] campaign confirmed – just over 12 hours after the announcement was made – that the pay proposals would not be taken forward.

I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you.

Load of bollocks anyway.

All governments want to move as much of the civil service out of the South East as possible, because wages are lower up north and London don't vote Tory.
