Richer or poorer?

There has been a lot of stuff in the media recently about rising prices, falling wages and all the rest, but I can't say that sort of thing affects me over much.

This is going to sound schmultzy (probably because it is), but when I am in control of my own affairs I feel pretty good and when I am at the beck and call of some tiresome snot of an employer I ain't. A  few millions in the bank would be nice and having a debt collector at the door has always been a bit of a downer, but mostly I feel that the more freedom of action I have, the richer I feel.

How do you guys feel?

A million or so in the bank at my age would be nice enough, and sufficient to free me from the need to be a wage slave beholden to an employer, immediate retirement affordable if I want it, with enough cash to free me from financial worries.

Mind you with inflation doing what it's doing maybe a couple of million would be necessary just to be on the safe side.

I would want to do something with my time. I am not ready to sit on my arse all day. But it would be nice to have the freedom to work when and where I feel like it and not feel driven to it by financial necessity.
