Never have a drought ,(nor hosepipe bans) East Surrey water gets its supply from aquifers in the region .

We had one. There was a hosepipe ban and the allotment committee ran round putting up priggish notices telling us that we could not do anything. Then it turned out that it did not apply to fruit and veg. In fact it only applied to the geraniums on the window sill, which was a bit tricky. The problem was that though the general feeling was that all authority figures deserve a regular kick in the wedding tackle for the good of their souls, we were forced to once again recognise that no one else wanted the job so could only go so far.

Nick with the nasty people who infest internet forums deducing satire is impossible.
No, it's just you.
I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you.

I guess we will be unlikely to know how much we're saving until April when all the tax returns are being calculated. My gut feeling is that overall, the amount put away over the 22/23 financial year will turn out to be 40-50% down once extra spend is accounted for...
Indeed but how many times did you laugh in the 22/23  financial year ?

On climate change — we're talking, we're beginning to act, but we're still not doing enough...

Exactly my point, you wouldn't know it if it bit you on the arse.

I was not expecting that. The water bill for my home has gone down to £8.01 per month. (£eight pounds and a penny.)

Rather reminds me of when I was working for HMRC and pleasant, but clearly not to be trifled with ladies would ring up and say that they had forwarded their husband/boyfriends' SC60s, now where was the refund? :)
Ah thats what I call the holiday fund . She says where are we going this year I say how much tax did you manage to get back ;D

I pay the power bills, the Poll tax for the Rural Ruin, the computer bills and a few other bits and pieces. Herself manages the Poll tax for the London property and the mortgage on the country place. I have never found out how much Madam has in the bank or how much she weighs and have had the sense not to ask, but I know that she is happy with matters as they are.
Sounds like you pulling your wieght Borky . Talking about wieght to stop her indoors getting all unecessary about  what the scales say I threw them out years ago ,whats a few pounds between freinds or even spouses . She did draw the line when I tried doing the same with all the mirrors though .
As you say as long as they are happy whats to worry about , wealth is just as much an illusion as poverty ,Ive slept well  at both ends

And there in lies your problem, you are incapable of recognising satire.
What satire? People are still using DHSS when that has not existed for 1/2 a century.

Given there has been no poll tax in Britain for over two decades it is wrong not a figure of speech.

Maybe in your part of the world Pappy, but in London we still wake screaming at the memory of Richard I treasurer and Chancellor being dragged out of the Tower and murdered by the frenzied mob.

Or maybe not :)

But be that as it may be, I don't care over much if it is rent, rates, taxes or bribes, they still have to be paid.

Don't take everything so literally, it's a figure of speech.
