Depends how you cook it. I had conger eel for supper last night, it was lovely.
Never had it (as far as I know) — but I like jellied eels, and the smoked eel served in the Netherlands...
On climate change — we're talking, we're beginning to act, but we're still not doing enough...

Dreadful stuff — to my recollection it's only fit for pet food...

When they work they are very good allowing you to really see where your money is going

And when they don't work they are a pain in the arse because the only way to contact the power companies are via a call centre at the arse end of nowhere where there are only three staff who are are reading off a script and dreaming of marrying doctors.

I am a marine engineer, have a degree in mathematics and have little faith in any technology other than a knife and fork

I don't want one.

Nothing against them as such, but I always figure that if someone wants to do me a financial favour, then I will probably lose out. Plus I have memories of the chap coming round and emptying the gas and electricity and giving mum a rebate. And then she would send us off to get fish and chips and Tizer and Devon Cream buns.

Maybe if the lad from British Gas turns up with a go of chips and Rock Salmon I with reconsider ;)

Rock Salmon (Dog fish) is back on the menu as the ban on landing it in Britain has been lifted.

On the wider issue of smart meters they are a good thing as long as only used as measuring devices but until their software and central business procedures are robust they should never be used as pay as you go or even to cut off supply.
I will never accept a smart meter.

There is a filthy rumour that electricity suppliers are requesting government to force people to have smart meters. (In my case that is NEVER going to happen.)

Update on the rollout of smart meters (nao.org.uk)

9% (around three million) of the 32.4 million installed smart meters were not operating in smart mode as at the end of March 2023 and are effectively indistinguishable from a traditional meter, meaning that they have technical issues and do not send energy use information to suppliers and may not display this to consumers.
Thanks for that link AND for the pertinent quote

Our smart meters worked fine for years, I'd even say brilliantly and then some idiot British Gas software engineer changed something at BG central and they just don't work anymore.  Relations between me and BG are just toxic nowadays and am on the brink of going to the Ombudsman.

And we're far from alone https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/news/2023/april/british-gas-app-in-house-smart-meter/

After year of harassing me, (which I complained directly to their CEO, about.) they no longer mention smart meters.

Streetwalker I do NOT want smart meter, my supplier kept on harassing me to get one, in the end they had to confess after a lot of argument that a smart meter will not work at my location anyway.

I have gradually over years cut the amount of electricity I use. I don't need an effing smart meter.

Yes I am aware of that they can cut me off ,dont know why they would do it though as for most people I would suggest they would only do it once . Therefore why would they if they are going to loose customers ?

You are lucky yours works fine, 3 million of them don't. Also are you aware if you have a smart meter your electricity supplier can cut off your electricity remotely. I also assume you are totally unaware of the plethora of other problems related to Smart Meters.
Frankly the media press have remained very quiet about them.
