UK landslides: Travel restrictions as horrifying weather video shows road destroyed – 10 airlifted to safety

Travel restrictions have been put in place across Scotland, after extreme downpours caused landslides in many parts of the country.

Ten people were airlifted to safety over the weekend, after the heavy rainfall caused vehicles to become stranded across the region.

Police Scotland confirmed that no injuries have been reported following the rescue in Inveraray in Argyll and Bute.

Speaking to Eamonn Holmes and Isabel Webster on GB News, Weather Journalist Nathan Rao shared the latest forecast and warned of travel restrictions.

Isabel asked Rao: "It couldn't be further from the weather that we experienced in the South, but terribly dangerous mud slides and all sorts happening?"

Rao revealed: "This weather was actually a result of part of the weather from the South.

"It was a clash of the warm air coming up from the South and the cold air from the north, and this caused this intense deluge up to 6 inches of rain in quite a short period of time, which is around a month's worth. So that's a very high amount of rainfall for quite a short period of time.

"And we saw the consequences. There was meetings regarding travel restrictions. There are still travel restrictions in place. Even though the rain has abated now, the flooding is still going to be an issue."

Rao continued: "So Traffic Scotland are warning that some of the roads are still going to be impassable and Scot Rail are also warning that some of the rail services are going to be suspended and there is no rail replacement.

"So if you are travelling in the area of Scotland today, it is worth checking those agencies to make your plans."

Eamonn reacted to the landslides in Scotland, saying: "I look at situations like that and I think what is the best thing to do, stay in your car, get out of your car. And if so, where? Where do you go? Where do you go?"

Rao replied: "The authorities are warning today that if you are planning to travel in the region, to check your travel arrangements and make only emergency travel plans.

"And I think that is the best way to deal with this because if you are caught in one of these things, you're quite right. There's very little you can do.

"It's also worth mentioning on Tuesday there is another weather warning out for the West of Scotland, that is a Met Office yellow warning for further rain. So coming on top of what we've already seen, Scotland's in a bit of trouble at the moment."

The Met Office has today issued a red weather warning for flooding across Findhorn Nairn Moray and Speyside, Tayside.

The Met Office also warns of widespread flooding affecting whole communities, danger to life and severe travel disruption.
