But this wasn't just a zombie policy Keir Starmer forgot to get rid of: he made it part of one of his key pledges while running to be leader in 2020.

Guess the FT article has no merit - the one where it states the respected IFS pointed out Lab's unfunded commitments, then again nor does Investopedia nor the EU's own definitions of itself etc etc. Others know better as ever

Seems you forget that Labour lost both the 2017 and 2019 elections so any manifesto promises made then expired then.

Go on then, name them

But let's start with what the FT thinks of them doing this:

https://www.ft.com/content/e529148e-01b4-4fe9-af43-c8c54807c58b

Good luck refuting that.

They shift policies every 5 seconds and row back on anything and everything, so how can I name them when they don't have any policies - just things they pretend to believe in then change 5 seconds later?

Why don't we focus on the things Starmer has said he'd do then reneged on? You'll like this.

Let's start with the most basic one

QuoteScrapping tuition fees

Labour's promise to scrap tuition fees was a core part of its manifestos in the 2017 and 2019 elections. But this wasn't just a zombie policy Keir Starmer forgot to get rid of: he made it part of one of his key pledges while running to be leader in 2020.

From the instant audit Reeves ordered on taking office

https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/fixing-the-foundations-public-spending-audit-2024-25

'1. On 8 July, the Chancellor of the Exchequer announced that she had instructed
Treasury officials to undertake a rapid audit of public spending. This document
sets out the outcome of the audit, the immediate action the government is taking
in response, and the long-term measures being introduced to restore public
spending control.
2. The audit carried out by the Treasury shows that the forecast overspend
on departmental spending is expected to be £21.9 billion above the resource
departmental expenditure limit (RDEL) totals set by the Treasury at Spring
Budget 2024.'

Para 22 onwards give the details of a whole host of unbudgeted spending commitments the Tories hadn't fessed up about.  Or in common parlance, the Tories were lying about the finances.

Don't worry, they will blame it all on the Tories as they always do
Well they do seem to have been hiding a lot of unbudgeted spending commitments

The Tories blamed Labour for 14 years so no change there.

Painful for us, that is, not them.

Excuses about a black hole that was a "surprise" although public finances are, ahem - public and even more available to opposition parties from the Treasury.

They lied to gain power and people believed them. Now we are stuck with the charlatans for 5 years.

More like it was the last government that was lying with spending promises not put on the books.

patman post

At last, an honest warning of the difficulties facing the country and a realistic assessment of the time needed to fix the damage caused by the incompetent, self-serving, lying last four administrations!!!

And what an appropriate venue to illustrate the change — the No.10 Rose Garden — where the Johnson administration partied (and its advisers lied) as hundreds of thousands in the UK were struck down with Covid...
On climate change — we're talking, we're beginning to act, but we're still not doing enough...

Labour have always been liars and Starmer was reported on this forum by a member as an outright liar who gained the Labour leadership through it. I believe the member (Can't be sure who it was)  left the Labour party as a result. He has form and now drunk on power he and his cronies are steadily creating a police state that can only drop to the bottom. Socialism never works except for those creating it.
I fail to see how Labour can be any worse than the 14 years of nasty, callous, incompetent, corrupt and frankly crooked Tory government.

You were stuck with the Tory charlatans for 14 years. I doubt the damage they did can be sorted if at all in five years.

QuoteLabour was 'honest' about tax plans during election campaign, insists Starmer
Sir Keir Starmer is now answering questions from the media.

It was suggested to the Prime Minister that Labour had not been honest during the general election campaign about tax rises.

Asked if he could say which tax rises he is now considering, Sir Keir said: "We were being honest about the situation before the election, we set out very clearly what we would be doing with tax rises."

He cited the commitment not to put up income tax, National Insurance or VAT and said "that remains the position".

But he added: "What I did not expect was a £22 billion black hole."
