Well there are always CPOs, not that I'm saying all the houses should be compulsorily purchased, but some could be to alleviate the problem in areas with the most chronic shortages

And Cornwall has some of the worst poverty in the UK, I agree they should probably start thinking about banning airb&bs outright in areas with the worst shortages and think about doing CPOs in some of those areas too.

They just banned AirBNB from Barcelona by 2028 completely for example - nearly all places must go to locals instead

In any case, while more homes obviously need to be built to alleviate the shortage, plenty could be repurposed that have been left vacant in areas with chronic housing shortages, if there was a will to do so by a determined government.
Compulsory Purchase Order process housing does not happen in Cornwall. (I can't find any on the CPO database.)

The empty houses are not where the need for housing is. Also where I live needs 26000 council house for local people.  The majority of empty homes near me are second homes that are only occupied a few weeks a year. There are also far too many AirB&Bs.

In any case:

Empty homes hits 1 million because owners 'don't want to sell up'

Vs homeless:

There already are sufficient homes built, they just aren't on the market.

QuoteHomeless population

The UK homeless charity Shelter estimated in 2019 that the number of people in England who were entirely homeless or in temporary accommodation was 280,000. Rough sleepers are only a small proportion of the homeless.

Is that Shenzhen? Maybe Guanzhou?

The cars have Guangdong province plates.

In Hong Kong they have even bigger issues with housing -

I have never stated I don't want tourists, it is the OVER tourism that is the problem. Far more than can the local infrastructure can handle.  You can't get a quart into a pint pot. The village can handle 6000 visitors a day. It cannot handle the up to 20000 a day who rock up all too often. It is also the significant number of them who are badly behaved with no respect for the area or the people who live in it.
Tourists who spend money are of some benefit those with no money are not.
Which village, what's the name?
I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you.

So your local shop relies on tourist does he? The exact same people you don't want.
Tell me, what's the difference between a tourists with no money and no tourists?

It is rammed with tourists where I live. (Kynance Cove car park was full by 10.00 hours the other morning. Tourists with empty wallets is NOT rubbish. It is fact and businesses are crying about it.
My local shop keeper is seeing far less people in his shop despite the village being rammed with tourists. (Did you bother to read my last, or don't you know what footfall is.) Some businesses have shut down because of the tourist with empty wallets problem.

The thing is Papa is that people go to Cornwall for the beautiful coastline and not much else .
Bit of a waste of time when the coastline is rammed with tourists. I would not even bother going for a walk currently, far too crowded.

People with caravans and camper vans stocked with everything they need for the trip because you never know if you can get what you need on route . Most of the towns have restrictive expensive parking  so why bother using local shops .

Why is everything you post so extreme?
Cornwall is rammed ATM: No it's not, it's around half of its peak.
Tourists with empty wallets: Utter rubbish, no one goes away with no money, it's impossible to do.

Good news is that your local shop owner is seeing more people in his shop. 😀

Very few local people can afford top buy a house and nearly all the rentals are holiday lets AirB&B. It is now severe crisis. (Also the current situation of being rammed with tourists with empty wallets is no good for local business. )  A local shop told me only a few days ago but for the fact his family owns the shop and they don't need to employ any staff is the only reason they don't shut the business down. Despite the village being rammed with tourists the footfall in the shop has fallen dramatically.

Not my fault if you're not clever enough to read the context of a post, perhaps a knitting forum is more suited?

So high levels of poverty means NOBODY can afford a house, is that what you're saying?

Nick what are you babbling about. There are high levels of well documented poverty and depravation in Cornwall and all you keep coming back with is bullshine.
