There has been around another 2 inches of rain since I started the thread.

Half an inch just dumped itself on me as i tried to paint the patio

Yes, half an inch. The lid of the compost bin is circular, and the other half left it upside down when she put stuff in it this morning.

I'm in the Severn Trent water area and they recently emailed to say that they have plenty of water in the reservoirs, but were having difficulty keeping up with purification for drinking water supplies. Apparently, in lockdown and because of the warm dry weather, people were using hosepipes to water their gardens and to fill kiddies paddling pools every day.

Makes sense but it would help if they opened the pubs. That way folk could drink beer and take some of the pressure off the water purification plants.

Yes, I can see it on the radar, heading this way but losing intensity.

Heard a couple of general warnings of likely water shortages due to dry few months on BBC radio news (or may have been a gardening programme). Can't say I'm surprised as many urban areas are under concrete with any heavy rainfall being swept into storm drains and out to sea.
We're doing our bit by removing as much concrete as possible from gardens and replacing where needed with pavers on gravel and sharp sand to allow rain to soak into the ground. Works for parking bays too...
On climate change — we're talking, we're beginning to act, but we're still not doing enough...
