With £50000 of debt facing them, I think that stereotype went out of the window some time ago.
You could be right, and I'm in a poor position to criticise people for idleness and disorganisation, if the truth be told ;) .  But the student vote was the reason I heard for the other parties wanting the election on the 9th for all that, and it's hard to think of any other.

I am sure most Universities will 'whip' their students to their left wing views.

Having it on the 12th is virtually guaranteed to reduce the student vote because, as well as being the intellectual cream of their generation and the country's best hope for the future, students are idle and disorganised.  Allegedly.

Easily solved with a postal vote.

12th's the conventional choice because it's a Thursday, but it's also during the academic holidays.  Students, they reason, will register to vote in their university town, but be at their parents' home for Christmas.  Fewer students vote Tory.  Devious buggers the lot of 'em.

I am not entirely sure why 12 December is better than 9 December, but if Boris thinks that it is so then that is good enough for me.

I imagine that I will have to get my bell fixed so that I can go to the door and tell the candidates to f**k off.  :hattip

Reasons:- 12th is a Thursday they don't want to upset the plebs by changing the day for polling.

12th gives them a couple more days to clear urgent legislation not Brexit related.

12th gives Westminster employees to sort themselves out in case their boss is unseated making

               them redundant.

There is talk of the Speaker vote going ahead on 4th rather than leave it to a new parliament, because present incumbents 'know' the nominees. All jolly reasons.

Make laws in haste and rue them at leisure. Thanks Nick Clegg and  David Cameron.

Nothing hasty about it.

Master plan from Clegg, skillfully executed to shaft an institution his party had minimal engagement with, and will have even less soon.

It's hard to believe but more than one MP has requested that Bercow extend his tenure! He agreed he would 'do his duty' if it was discussed with the speaker candidates and the 'usual offices' and it was agreed he should.

The same people who argue for a vote for 16 years olds claim that Shemima Begum had no idea what she was doing when she was 16. If a child needs a parent to sign for a Police interview, they also need a parent to help them decide how to vote. Voting should be for adult British citizens, not foreigners. UK ex-pats in Europe do not get to vote in their national elections. Why do we want to keep watering down our national rules and identity? Isn't this why many voted against remaining in the EU?

Good points and questions. I think it has more to do with swaying the vote result than anything else. If our ex-pats cannot vote why should we extend the privilege? If voting at 16 comes in then that means my grandson will vote in 3 years time. Now he's a sensible chap but if he has to ask his parents if he can marry and is still in school why would he be old enough to decide my future?

No it's more shenanigans! This parliament has no shame.

Surely BoJo can huff and puff and outmanoeuvre Blackford and Swinson. I'm really hoping that this parliament is soon gone, to get a new refill of MPs - the type that can make a decision.

It has already started. Some Labour female claims she has already put down an amendment for 16 yr old votes and mentioned the EU migrants here having the vote too. It seems anything to swing the left vote. There is going to be a real bun fight today. I wonder if Bercow will have his last hurrah by choosing the most divisive amendments. Nothing would surprise me.

Just how many concessions will BJ have to give to get the votes for 12 Dec today? The somewhat crazed Ian Blackford does himself no favours but seems to be alluding to a 2nd inde ref being the price of his support. Wishful thinking or a possible Christmas pressie from BJ?

Poor Jo Swinson appears to be living in a parallel universe, though of course we mustn't assume anything and it may be possible that her photo on the steps of Downing St could be a world Christmas Pressie. What a happy new year that would be!
