Google have created a quantum computer - uses qubits

They all use qubits, as per it being the analogue of a binary bit in a normal computer.



However, like I was saying on another thread, this computer suffers from needing to be extremely cold. You can see the fridge in the picture I think, if it is that large cylinder. They state it is superconducting, so you're looking at least at liquid nitrogen temperatures.



The one that girl sussed in Vienna is the one people will be amazed by. She can make a quantum gate in 300nm on  a chip at room temperature. In quantum mechanics, if you look at something constantly it freezes it in time. That makes it impossible for the thermal noise from the heat to mess up the quantum state and make it behave classically. You would not have thought you can freeze something in time by staring at it, but welcome to weird world of quantum mechanics, far removed from our own.

I'm not sure how this will change our lives, but it certainly sounds impressive.
