Not just the Tories pulling a fast one with regard to affordable housing Jog . My Labour run council (you might have to sit down ) has been at it for years . They set up their own in house building company and 'lent' it £10M to buy up council owned land . The building company (council) then applies for planning that is  often opposed by local residents but is always passed by the council .

Some of the plots of council land were sold to the Building company for as little as £250 . The homes being sold on the market for £600,000

It doesn't matter the colour of the rosette ,they are all at it

Brexit has indeed caused much harm to this country, including disrupting the day to day running of the country. We can reasonably expect this disruption to continue for the next decade once we leave the EU and the difficult and politically divisive trade negotiations start.

On the other hand the Conservatives receive quite a lot of donations from property developers, £1.8m alone in 2018.  Perhaps the reason they didn't put this legislation forward was a concern it may upset the donors since any reductions in house prices come out of the profits of developers unless the government pays them the difference.

Or it's just typical Conservative incompetence.

One of the consequences of a remainer prime minister who couldnlt be arsed to get her act together and do the Brexit she promised.

NONE of the Affordable Homes legislation was even put forward by the Government, so NONE of the promised homes were built, but shitloads of taxpayers money was spent acquiring land which has now been (probably gleefully) built on by party donor property developers free from the onerous task of having to actually build the affordable homes they were supposed to.

And yes, it's bloody personal, one of those sites was in Bristol.  Minimum price of a home ACTUALLY built on it 240k, almost as much as my five bed three floor mansion in NP19... but homes in Newport are no good to those who face a 60 minute minimum, 90 minute more often, commute to their place of work the wrong side of Bristol.
