From experience you have to play smart . When I was dragging my two around Britain's finest tourist traps I dont think I ever paid the full price of a ticket . Just look out for train tickets with free entry  , two for ones , kids go free and Family specials .

Using that principle (sort of) the mountain railway can go screw itself,  I shall find the time another day to do what I did forty years ago and walk up the bugger.

I have instead chosen to spend my 39th wedding anniversary having a rather nice sounding and terribly nice looking pre-booked saturday lunch at the castle overlooking Portmeirion, and free entry to the village after, for a shitload less.

And the day after I'll chuck it all back up because I'm going to face my sickening fear of heights and do" the aqueduct / canal a mile or so east of Llangollen...

This is where my Capitalist and your Socialist views Split.

What are you on about?  Just because I hate the Tories and with good reason does not mean I am a socialist, because I am not.
The charges for most tourist attractions in Britain are outrageous. (It is also bloody expensive to have a holiday in Britain.)

Jesus ,thats gone up .

Locally how families afford to go to any of the tourists attractions is a puzzle.  £100 for a family of four, (and that is not all inclusive) if fairly common.

This is where my Capitalist and your Socialist views Split. I believe that certain elements of modern living should not be available to every sector of the population. If you think of society as a cake you have the base then the fruit cake, the marzipan then the icing with finally the Cherry on top. The problem is that with the 'Have the trappings of the rich and pay £5 a week for ever' companies there is no separation from rich and poor until we have an extraordinary event like CV and the can't really afford it brigade come unstuck. Like I've said many times, I'm a capitalist to the point of being what the socialists call callous... But I am still a realist, unlike most socialists.
I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you.

Jesus ,thats gone up .  I was with a few pals back when I was young fit and healthy and we walked Snowdon for some strange reason ,had a beer at the top and walked down again .
One of the lads had broken his ankle during a ruck with the locals in Llanberis a couple of days before so was designated beer carrier and brought the refreshments  up on the train . Im pretty sure it was only a few shillings maybe a pound  for the fare but that was back in the 80's

It appears the company has been taken over by Virgin Trains

https://snowdonrailway.co.uk/

The company now charge £31 for a "two hour unique experience" which does not actually go all the way
