How should we feel about this? The word is that because he has voiced homophobic and misogynist beliefs he shouldn't have been given the job.

As a woman I am happy for him to be a mysogynist as long as he doesn't abuse women. If he keeps it to himself that's ok. We are getting more and more paranoid about free speech but free thought? Is that a problem too? I can't speak of homophobia  since I am not a man but I am fairly sure that mysogynists and homophobics aren't quite as rare as hen's teeth even in high office. They just haven't been sussed.,

Tony Abbott ??

Who he ? Diane's son exploiting his non white privilege ?

<t>In matters of taxation, Lord Clyde\'s summing up in the 1929 case Inland Revenue v Ayrshire Pullman Services is worth a glance.</t>

Quite a shrewd appointment by johnson and cummings.

It will take a bit of the heat off johnson at the minute.

Judging from the media reaction , and comments on here , it seems to be working and working well....

There you go! I don't agree of course

I suspect you would change your mind if you did some research.

So  am I. If you have a point why not post it? You can moderate your language to fit surely?

Well I have ponder what collective sin British citizens have done to deserve such a useless idiot as Bojo-The Clown as Prime Minister. His choice of people is worse than Cameron's.  Cummings is dangerous and should not be near government, ANY government, as for Tony Abbott, the man is a disgrace, and his appointment brings Britain into even more disrepute internationally than it is currently.

There you go! I don't agree of course but you would expect that, but that's a perfectly worded post conveying your sentiments very well. Thank you.

Quote from: T00ts on September 04, 2020, 08:32:38 PMThat has to beg the question - are you more upset because of his beliefs or his money?

I am more concerned at his views on women etc. than however much money he has.

QuoteIn answer to yours, he will have been told no doubt. His future is in his own hands. We voted BJ in to do a job. He is pretty good I think at delegating to the right people. If this chap has the skills then so be it. BJ would be a complete fool to stick his neck out for no good reason. We have seen it before, no doubt we will see it again.

What exactly is the risk to Johnston? A number of conservative voters will agree with Abbots opinions on women, and feeling threatened by gay people etc. and those that don't will see any grievance for Abbots appointment being a leftist 'anything that Johnston does is bad' attack, and so will dismiss it and double down. If Abbot does going on some gaffe filled rant then he can always be shuffled away, it will be 'hugely embarrassing' for Johnson, and forgotten in a week.

Board of Trade is a four hundred year old organisation that was originally set up to further the interests of the British Empire in the Colonies. Does Abbott's appointment as an advisor to the new Board of Trade mean this task is being pursued anew?

President of the Board of Trade and Minister for Women and Equalities is Liz Truss. Anyone who remembers her cringeworthy address to the 2015 Tory Conference must surely wonder: "WTF is going on?"...

They imported Borchester? Now it all makes sense.

Nonetheless, this Abbott guy isn't holding the position the media are saying he is..

The preference seems to be to hide behind the inability to curb the rhetoric.
