I suppose that worked in the 1600s when the church and in.particular the Pope did well out of the moneyed classes paying their way into heaven with indulgences ....

The modern evangelical churches (hopefully) preach a gospel of free salvation, so that disgusting nonsense can be consigned to history.

I just wondered if God is saying, "Have I got your attention yet?"

If you never realised you are mortal, you should now. Think about it.

<t>In matters of taxation, Lord Clyde\'s summing up in the 1929 case Inland Revenue v Ayrshire Pullman Services is worth a glance.</t>

This has nothing to do with the conversation we were having.

If your god did not want us to go to hell then we would not. He does, so we do. If you believe it.

Absolutely if you think so.

You are living with the belief that mankind is in charge. They are not. How can we be when we have no proper understanding even of time? It is really hard in this world to accept a greater power. The adversary, often called the king of all lies, has sucess fully persuaded so many of the greatness of mankind. It is evident today that he is working his socks off to take as many with him as possible. One only has to read the scriptures to realise that everything written is coming true. Time is coming when many will begin to understand.

Your god could of given us "Free Will" and not punish us in an afterlife of hell.

Hell would only exist if they wanted it to. And apparently they do want it to exist.

Oh dear we are back to free will again. We are here on earth to prove ourselves. God would hope that we choose to live as he wishes but has given us the choice. His Son showed us the way and the scriptures are a blue print. We also have the Holy Spirit who, if we bide Him, will guide us through the many pit falls in life, all of which are designed by the Adversary, to lead us away from our return to our Father.

We are God's children and He loves us but the choices are ours however we will be judged on our works.

As far as the many Gods worshipped all over the world, this is clearly referenced in the Scriptures. We have the warnings if we are prepared to look. Even Christian Churches although following some doctrines, have changed and warped them in the 2000 years since Christ.

Sorry I don't understand the question. Whose wants?

A god made rules in opposition with their own wants?

God does not want any of His children in Hell's fire but there are rules.

Assuming your belief in a generic christian god - what's best for me is apparently eternal hellfire ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Maybe in God's eyes the eternal is more important than the temporal, Nalaar. He knows what is best for us in the long term.

You think your god is currently pondering 'have I got your attention yet' while collectively humanity suffers a global pandemic? You must not think much of your god, or they not much of us.
Don't believe everything you think.

Thank you Barry that was interesting. Looking to 'the Church' to lead seems a slightly feeble hope based on present performances. Who do you suppose she is referring to?  I presume the Christian Church of course but there are many all teaching differing doctrine  so how would anyone know which to follow?

I don't know whether she means a denomination, or the church universal.

QuoteFor my money our relationship with Him is personal. Prayer is not just for crisis, prayer is a regular report to our Father, to tell Him how we feel, what we regret, what we need and our feelings about Him. I struggle with prayers that are repeated parrot fashion from a book. Doesn't a prayer from the heart represent so much more? Even when leading a crowd/congregation. I am all for prayer en mass or solo, as long as it is lead by heartfelt inspiration from the Holy Ghost . So yes a day of prayer with a 24 hour fast added for good measure to concentrate our individual spirits, but God does not blow hot and cold as sometimes we do. To honour Him our prayers should be continuous/regular with Him constantly in our hearts through both times of trouble and times of peace.

Couldn't agree more
