Like I said, all great in theory but this is the reality fellas.

Keep things in house but, just don't give them (tenders) to your corrupt mates, give them to reputable companies and such.

Its not simply a question of just giving things to your corrupt mates ( like labour you mean ?)

Manufacturing in the uk has been seriously undermined and destroyed since the days of thatcher , and of course the eu hasnt helped either.

Time to build up manufacturing in these islands so they have the capability and experience to produce what is needed.

All true, on a slight tangent, kn Scotland they've come up with a great vaccine beating the shit out of the US big pharma monsters.

Our various countries can do a lot. But this govt is really a big impediment to that. I hope the Tory party find it in themselves to replace Cummings/Bojo soon, even if it's a diehard Brexiter; all I'm suggesting is someone who's not completely obssessed with money and power, 5% morals would be useful.  :D

Why does that surprise you dyno?

Scotland builds for example the most amount of space satellites in europe and employs more than 7500 people.

Too many people constantly talk the uk countries down instead of up.

Where did I say it surprised me?

The point was that it's a small venture against 100bn$+ US big pharma giants.

It doesn't surprise me, but it isn't something you see happening everyday.

My point is that it isn't all about money and power.

Yes ,panic buying stuff  from Turkey was one that springs to mind .   Maybe they have learned from that and are now keeping contracts 'in house' so to speak

...but that was a slightly differnt matter ( i take your point above about turkey) in that origianlly the uk government were pursuing the herd immunity strategy on the advice of advisors , so didnt bother about ppe etc etc.

Then scientists pointed out shit , it might mean thousands of old die , and will make you look bad if it happens over a short period , so they about turned on herd immunity and the rest is history.

They have been ripped off a few times on dodgy foreign shite , not just turkey , but chinese etc.

Keeping contracts  and buying in the uk , and building up manufacturing here cannot be a bad thing long term without the eu sticking their feckin nose and rules in.

Don't forget where the £10bn+ monies for test and trace are going too.

In giving the contracts to friend's and family so to speak the Tories are surely inviting scrutiny . Is that such a bad thing ?
The article says that the government is avoiding EU rules of tender because its an emergency and can go straight to a supplier of choice .That it is UK firms getting the work should be good enough for now

totally agree streetwalker. The eu rules of tender have been a feckin disaster.

Ferry services in scotland for example had to be put out to tender as per the eu rules , and labour were screaming that the snp were privatising them .

Until someone pointed out the same thing  happened when labour were in power in holyrood . :)

In theory, great. In reality, it has gone so much worse than anyone expected it to. I mean the series of blunders have been monumental since this all started. And the people they've tendered things out to bear a large brunt of the blame.
