I thought he had said he would stand as an independent. So I guess he was either given an offer he couldn't refuse, or didn't fancy his chances and losing his deposit.  With so many resignations it will be interesting to see just how Westminster will look in the new year.

his resignation letter says if he stood as an independent he would be thrown out of the party which he does not want.

as many others elsewhere have also said, it would have been a fun declaration to witness.

also, there are not that many resignations really. just lots of publicity. there have been more in earlier years.

I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you.

He was a fairly typical Conservative but his opposition to a no deal Brexit and the governments attempts to push through Mr Johnson's Brexit deal without proper parliamentary scrutiny redeemed him a little.

He had three years to study the deal and the results of the referendum. If he needed more time to reflect on the matter his best course of action would have been join the Labour party and apply for Wurzel's job where dithering is a prerequisite.

That's a real shame. I was looking forward to that particular result for Runnymede and Weybridge.
