Well builders certainly win as do councils .

Its OK building all these homes (plenty of work for me if I want it ) but what they need to remember is that for every home you need to provide parking spaces , a local doctor , dentist and school places .  Extra transport capacity and services need to be maintained .

There is more to developing a local plan than just making it easier , Im all for that but its got to be easier in the right way  not just a free for all

This is so true. They are building thousands of houses on the edge of this village. The front line looks good. Wide-ish roads, pleasant frontages and reasonable sizes. Go further in and it's tomorrow's ghetto. Three storey boxes with what seems like minimal footprint built in warren form on roads littered now with cars trying to park near their owners' front doors. No privacy for anyone, no peace it would seem to me, and little open space. The final insult is the cost. I feel really sad for those who are pushed into these places. No wonder people are getting mental health problems.

An acquaintance of mine owned one of the three storey places from new, built some 6 years ago now. Opposite him were Housing association tenants. Behind him were more of the same. His life was made miserable by neighbours who rented and cared little for anyone or anything. He feared for his kids who he felt he could not allow to mix with those living nearest. He grew to resent having to watch the pennies to pay his mortgage while his neighbours flaunted latest SUVs, huge TVs and all the latest gadgets while appearing not to work.

I listened often as he worked his socks off to get out. He managed it and I have since seen him only once and the difference to his life was remarkable. His house sold 3 times in as many years after that. Building companies should be forced to consider the impact on people when they design and build these places. I can't help feeling that they will be future slums. Considering that the builders have owned the land for more that 30 years bought originally for a reasonable sum and the buildings themselves can't be that expensive to build since they are hardly high end, the profits must be stupendous. It cannot be right.
