Just talking to Mrs SW about what we are going to do .The last family gathering cancelled like all the rest and with what seems mass hysteria and people cleaning out the supermarkets I dont know if Ill even bother going shopping as planned . Theres a Chicken and a joint of beef in the freezer ,the sheds stocked up with beer and I can grab some bits from the Pa,,,,corner shop . We will get by ,the old woman could do with going on a diet anyway .

Wheres Santa ? thats what I want to know . He always comes up Trump if not down the chimney . Been very quiet this year haven't seen sight nor sound of him ,hope he didnt catch the corona , now that would mean Christmas is cancelled .

Exactly it's not the end of the world. Christmas lunch for one is not much of a challenge but I had my last food order last Wednesday and the next one available is not til Jan 2nd, going to a supermarket is not an advised activity for me so I have tried to store as much as needed for 2 reasons. Chaos in January while everyone gets their act together and then this Covid thing has simply crept up unannounced - but the preparations are there. Perhaps I am like my Mum and a bit of a witch.   ;)

Well I've bowed out of the corona virus threads mainly because everybody has taken positions and there's little more to be sad.

I was though today told of someone in their late thirties with no known health issues died in hospital of the virus and left a young family,I know people die every day but it doesn't alter how sad things like this are.

Anyway good thread T00tsie :D

I'm with you cromwell. I will not panic or hide as some suggest but I try to be a sensible adult rather than adopt the rather puerile demands of those who are still pretending that we are being conned. Today's scenario of I don't know how many countries have closed borders to us, suggests that other governments have the same predictions as our own and are acting accordingly. Whatever we might personally feel about Government  action or lack of depending on your viewpoint, we do have a social responsibility not just to those close but to all society, and I would hope that would take precedence over rather silly wishes to party regardless of the consequences.

It is just one more day out of a whole year where we have seen that current actions have only worsened the situation. How much more 'proof' does anyone need? Either way we win. If we obey the rules it might help whether the prognoses are right or wrong. Better that than continue to be gung ho and rather thoughtless and find that more and more young people are suffering. I simply don't understand the logic. Fortunately the majority are apparently on the same side as us.

There are many charities providing hot meals for those in need, who would be glad of the food to use.

This is true but we are thinking of those who have been left high and dry with the new rules etc who may not be able to get what they need.

Instead of bemoaning the fact or throwing food away because of over-ordering and guests not coming, why not do as some of us are and see if anyone local to you has missed out on their shopping, or is alone and unable/unwilling to cook, and plate up those extra meals in your house and take them to theirs? Let's focus on the good that can be achieved this year instead of on our own disappointment and allow the real reason for Christmas to shine through.

The new mantra of 'Christmas is cancelled' and the general whine of fury/disappointment is upsetting but I can't help but put in a word for a bit of sanity and deeper thought.

Christmas is not cancelled. The reasons for our celebrations are still there and will be for ever. All that has been threatened is the mass gathering of friends and families, the raucous noise in the pubs and some of the excesses that have become the norm at this time of year.  Perhaps we should focus a little on what remains intact. Jesus, the only Begotten Son of God gained human form and gave His life to save us from eternal death, not just of the body but the Spirit too.

Instead of bemoaning the fact or throwing food away because of over-ordering and guests not coming, why not do as some of us are and see if anyone local to you has missed out on their shopping, or is alone and unable/unwilling to cook, and plate up those extra meals in your house and take them to theirs?
