Don't get me wrong, I love strawberry and cream sponge cakes, chocolate gateaux, iced buns, apple turnovers, flapjacks, chocolate truffles, coffee and walnut cake, trifles and all that stuff.  It's just that I was having a bit of a lol about the term "high tea".  Why high?  Is it served on a table that's at chin level or are the chairs also high in order to compensate for the extra height of the table?

Its simply high society vocabulary  liberal riff raff like you will never understand.

Who on earth  on the glasgow riviera would serve up a galete de rois with lemon filling for high tea to a bearded sandal wearing liberal lout like you quackers?

I wouldn't worry it never stopped Thomas, corporal Jones or ovine a right bloody triumvirate of miscreants.

There is like  the musketeers a fourth but he spends most of his time trying to turn his allotment in to a wasteland or sourcing matches. :) :) :) :P

Must say favourite breakfast is Lidl sliced smoked salmon (cheap as chips)two brown toast loads of butter with crust on poached egg and ground black pepper.

Mine is poached haddock (smoked or not, either works) with lightly poached eggs, and wholemeal toast ....

There's something about the fish flaking and the eggs ....

That sounds pretty upper class to me - wholemeal or speciality of course.
Oh a trip to Lidls in Cromwells neck of the wood is up market, they serve anyone.
