I might be wrong but I imagine that truffles benefit from plenty of bovine manure, so they should grow very well in this forum.

I might not be an expert but I do know enough to correct you when you're wrong!

I don't how relevant it is but the chap in Escape to the Chateau decided to grow truffles when they had no success finding any on their land. It was quite a rigmarole from what I remember but he went ahead with it. I'm sure you could find the episode if you googled. I think he planted young trees but I don't think they looked that far apart. I seem to remember he gave quite a lot of detail.

I watched that about a year ago, it is indeed quite a rigmarole and takes quite some soil preparation and a lot of time to establish the conditions. I am unsure of whether he even knows he has succeeded yet, but that's because I gave up watching when I realised a) his missus expected to clear a twenty grand profit for holding weddings onsite and b) Dee - my yongest's future mother in law - seems rather keen to have an invite to a wedding there ....
<t>In matters of taxation, Lord Clyde\'s summing up in the 1929 case Inland Revenue v Ayrshire Pullman Services is worth a glance.</t>

Truffles are VERY expensive.

Possibly, but a small price to pay if it keeps the totty quiet. :)

Not the chocolate ones, the one they use Frenchmen to root around for.

Herself has suddenly decided that she wants a truffle plantation. I don't know why she can't go down to Fortnam and Mason and buy them like everyone else, but there you are. No one is asking my opinion so I have sent off for a tree that is allegedly ridden with trubs which will probably keel over the moment it is put in the ground.

So I would be grateful for any advice.

Ta Pappy. According to those guys the trees should be grown 75 m away from any others, which works out at about 3 acres for a fistful of trubs.

I think a trip to Fortnam and Mason will be the easier option.

Growing truffles is bloody difficult. (When I lived in Buckinghamshire if I had realised what the big stupid black Labrador dog I looked after kept trying to dig up Beech trees for I would have made a fortune.)

This link might help:-
